Question about 2003 Ford Ranger Regular Cab

1 Answer

When I am not pressing on the gas pedal, the oil pressure guage flickers between low and high very fast. As soon as I press on the gas again, it goes right back to the middle (This is normally only after driving 35-40 miles when it starts doing this)......Also, when I apply my brakes and am almost stopped I get vibration on the front end. Thanks for the help!..........

The gauge issue is most likely a defective oil sending unit( or pressure ) switch.. No biggy.. They usually run less than 20.00 and labor of approx. 30 min.. Your vibration issue could be a number of things.. You'll need a Tech to test drive it.. could be the brakes rotors.. but not sure..

Why does the oil light come on while idling?

Low oil pressure or defective oil pressure switch/gauge. If vehicle has high mileage you my have an oil pump/main bearing issue causing low pressure. In some cases, using a heavier grade oil may help keep the light out

When pressing on the gas, sometimes I hear a noise like a hot rod taking off. its not a knocking noise but more like a vroom vroom noise. I was told it was the bearings ing the motor.

Oil gauge

cold oil is thicker, higher rpm=more pressure .factory guage is actually working like it should. if worried hook external guage on oil galley plug and check oil press.manually.

Oil light flickers when it warms up, when your stopped.

The flickering light usually indicates low oil pressure particularly at idle.Check oil quantity. How long since serviced and filter replaced. If these all good have your oil pressure tested with a master gauge. Some issues can be oil pickup slugged up or if high miler engine bearings.

When the engine gets warm every time I come to a stop or about to stop the oil temp guage shoots left and the bell goes off and the check guages light comes on but as soon as I hit the gas again everything...

What this is telling you is that you have very low oil pressure. Is your cars oil level up? If you have a proper oil level in you car then you could have a bad sensor. Then on the other hand your oil pump may be going bad. Hopefully this gives you at least some place to start and I hope this helps you out a little.

Everytime we stop at light the oil light comes on then turns off as soon as gas pedal is pressed

The oil lights come on because there isn't enough oil pressure in the engine... When you come to a red light, the engine is at idle in a lower rpm and there isn't enought oil in your engine to cycle, thus creating low pressure, and the indicator comes on, however when you rev your engine or press the gas pedal, the remaining oil that you have in your engine is being cylce because of higher rpm, thus bypassing the oil sensor. Solution to this, is you need to add oil to the apropriate oil level AS SOON AS POSSIBLE or get a oil change before driving this car any longer as major mechanical issue may occur if you do not get this taken care of. You can buy a quart of oil at walmart or your local gas station and add it and get you by until you get it to the gas station. You may want to constantly keep a eye on the oil level as maybe your engine is burning oil, in order to avoid engine break down.

How do i reset the change engine oil soon light ?

Emissionwiz is correct on how to reset the oil life monitor. Turn the ignition to accessory on. Pump the accelerator three times. The Oil Life Monitor will flash for about 5 seconds indicating it has been reset correctly.
The oil life monitor is a function of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) that tracks operating temperature and engine revolutions per minute (rpm). Obviously since the light came on again the temperature is too high for the engine rpm. The incorrect oil weight or type could have been used and you need to change it with the correct weight and type. The other possibility is that a sensor or the PCM has a problem and you will need to have an OBDII code scanner to identify the problem. That will cost you around $70.00 if the mechanic knows what he is doing he can tell you the problem. I think changing the oil with the recommend weight and type again would be the cheaper route.

1989 F150 351 oil pressure guage starting dropping to 0 suddenly and engine light comes one. When I rev the engine it goes back to normal but a soon as the rpms drop the needle goes all the way to the left...

Hi:
Usually your oil light doesnt come on unless you have less than 10 lbs of oil pressure. You either have a bad oil pressure sending unit, or your engines oil pump is bad. The only way to verify your engines oil pressure is to buy a direct reading pressure guage and install it on your truck, or have a mechanic check your engine oil pressure. Eitherway, you need to do something soon, because the long term effects of running with low oil pressure will ruin your truck engine.
