Question about 2003 Chevrolet Venture Passanger

1 Answer

Dome lights inop.

In my 2000 Chevy Venture I can not solve the problem with my dome lights. When you open the door, the lights make a quick flash on, then off. When you put the key in the Ignition, same thing, quick flash on, then they shut back off. This tells me (and I verified) the fuse is not bad. And lastly, it happens again when shutting the van off and exiting it.

I can not get the lights to come on using the dash panel dome light switch at all? Has any one else experienced this? Any resolution? I had thought maybe the ignition switch, or dome light switch(headlamp switch)? It just dose not seem probable. The van has 92,000 miles on it and the lights have not worked sience 75,000, four years ago.

I have not tried that, but It does it on all the doors. I guess it could be a wire got crosses somewhere. Also there is not a key less entry remote because the dealer said the transmitter was bad and needed replacement. That would not affect this would it? I have not nor will not replace that, It is way to costly.

Okay, Thanks a million for a direction to look into. That seems like the most reasonable any one has came up with so far. I replaced a lot of parts today and they all failed, I replaced the ignition switch, headlamp switch, and checked all the door pins to see if one was sticking. Also I checked all the wires and connections. Everything "looks and tests" Okay. They don't work yet though! I wont be able to try your suggestion until next weekend, but I will let you know how that works out! Again, thanks a million! Tim

On all doors, it comes on momentarily, then off, as well as switch on dash, leads me to believe there is a circuit breaker in that circuit that's tripping. In some vehicles, they'll use these for power windows, and other circuits for some reason. Have you pulled dome light down & checked that light itself has a good ground going to it, and no bare wire or connector in behind panel that may be rubbing on metal ?

By the looks of the schematics I was able to find, those are all controlled by the BCM. (body control module) located usually up under dash behind glove box on passenger side.

May be behind kick panel on passenger side too. One thing I would do before thinking of replacing it, is to disconnect harness to it, and spray all contacts with electrical cleaner real good & add some di-electric grease to connection before putting it back on. Might be smart to remove battery connections prior.

Chevrolet venture 2000 panel lights no working and door bell on

Are the dome lights on? If so check the door switch.

If not you might have a bad instrument panel.

The interior lights on my father-in law's 2000 Safari are all inop (6 spots plus two dome lights) I can't find a fuse in the engine box for them. Is there another fuse box. The van has a dome overr

Does the van have remote keyless entry (RKE) system ?
Interior Lighting System Description
Vehicles with the optional remote keyless entry (RKE) system have interior lighting controlled by the body control module (BCM).
This vehicle uses a delayed interior lighting system.
The system functions as follows:
• The dome lamps will illuminate when any door is opened.
• The dome lamps will remain on for 20 seconds after the last door is closed.
• The delay is canceled and the dome lamps will go out when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.
• The illuminated entry function will not operate when the dome lamp defeat switch is in the OFF position.
• The interior lighting system is protected from battery rundown by the retained accessory power (RAP) system. The RAP system functions by shutting down interior lights after 10 minutes (when ignition is OFF).

Interior Lights Circuit Description
When the interior lamps circuits are closed/enabled, the courtesy lamp relay is activated by the two following coil circuits:
• CKT 690 (GRY/BLK) which is the courtesy lamp enable output of the body control module (BCM) driving the coil side of the relay.
• CKT 1732 (ORN) which is the coil output side of the relay going to the potential grounding switches/sources.
When the courtesy lamp relay is enabled, CKT 156 (WHT) (courtesy lamp output) is enabled by the closed contact at the relay and then grounded by CKT 750 (BLK) at G110.
Some of these circuits can also be activated with the headlamp and panel dimmer switch. When this happens, the coil output side of the inadvertent power relay is grounded to the body control module (BCM) via CKT 1393 (DK BLU)
CKT 40 (ORN) from the courtesy fuse drives both input sides of the inadvertent power relay. When the contact is pulled closed, CKT 1732 (ORN) is supplied power, thus driving any lamps/circuits attached that circuit and providing ground.
The body control module (BCM) also monitors the following four door inputs:
• CKT 49 (DK BLU) -- LH door jamb switch input
• CKT 54 (ORN) -- RH door jamb switch input
• CKT 775 (PNK) -- Side door jamb switch input
• CKT 656 (YEL) -- Rear door jamb switch input/liftgate strut switch input (depending on option content)
When the doors are closed, the body control module (BCM) is in a floating state of 0-2 volts. When the doors are opened, the courtesy lamp relay is activated, sending power to the courtesy lamps.
The headlamp and panel dimmer switch also activates the following interior courtesy lamps when the switch is placed in the PARK or HEADLAMP ON positions:
• RF power window switch
• RH power door lock switch
• LH power window switch
• LH power door lock switch
• LH outside rearview mirror control switch
• Rear radio control head
The dome lamps can be disabled by closing the dome lamp defeat switch located on the headlamp and panel dimmer switch.

Dome light doesnt come on when door is open

pretty easy to diagnose: power goes into the fuse for that circuit, from fuse to the dome light, and the door switches are wired in as an on-off switch. So, check your fuse, check your bulb, and if they are both good, then either your door switches are inoperative (may need cleaning, pull them out and check for operation. See if one of the wires is hot) OR, you have a short, a broken wire somewhere (least likely scenario). I hope you find the problem.

Dome lights won't turn off

Been having a problem with the dome lights on a 99 chevy blazer. Still can't figure out what the problem is. There is a dome light overide button located under the dimmer wheel. When I push the overide button in the dome light goes off, but when I open any of the doors the dome light will not come on. When the overide button is out the dome light stays on all the time and will not turn off even though every door is closed. I checked all the pushbuttons and everything tests good. Has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?

Saturn Turn Signal / Dome Light Issues

The interior lamps system consists of 2 main features. Illuminated entry and a battery saver feature that will turn the interior lights off after 20 minutes if they are left On with all doors closed and the ignition Off. The body control module (BCM) controls both of these functions. Battery power is supplied by the BCM through CKT 1732 to the following lamps:
• The dome lamp
• The map lamps
• The rear reading lamps
• The rear dome lamp
• The cargo lamp
• The glove compartment lamp
• The courtesy lamps
• The sunshade lamps
The BCM also controls the ground circuit side of the dome lamp and reading lamps for illuminated entry. The dome lamp and reading lamp will remain on for 20 seconds after the ignition key is removed and the last door is closed. In addition, if the vehicle is equipped with remote keyless entry (RKE), the dome and reading lamps will turn On and stay on for 20 seconds after an UNLOCK signal is received from the keyless entry transmitter.
The reading lamps, dome lamp and map lamps can be turned On at any time by moving the appropriate switch to the On position.
The rear dome lamp is fed battery voltage through CKT 1732 from the BCM, through the liftgate ajar switch, and is grounded through CKT 650 to the rear ground splice pack. The rear dome lamp will turn on when the liftgate is opened. The cargo lamp is fed battery voltage through CKT 1732 from the BCM, through CKT 744 and grounded through the decklid ajar switch.
The courtesy lamps are fed battery power through CKT 1732 and are grounded through CKT 745-- left front, CKT 747--left rear, CKT 748--right rear, CKT 746--right front. These circuits will ground through the door jamb switches. The courtesy lamp will be illuminated when the affected door is opened. For example, when the right rear door is opened, the right rear door courtesy lamp will turn on.

Not a fuse problem , if the BCM had blown fuse other thing's wouldn't be working as well . . Probably wiring or BCM . Using factory diagnostic,s instead of guessing as to what the problem is , is the proper way .

Interior Lamps Diagnosis
Symptom
Procedure
Important: Before proceeding with these diagnostics, check for DTCs. If DTCs are present, complete the associated diagnostics. If the condition still exists, return to this chart.
All of the interior lamps are inoperative when any door is opened.
Chart 1
The dome lamp is inoperative in the ON position, but OK in the door position. The map lamps operate normally.
The dome lamp switch is faulty. Replace the dome lamp switch.
The dome lamp is inoperative in the DOOR position, but is OK in the ON position.
Chart 2
The dome lamp is inoperative in any position and both reading lamps are inoperative.
Disconnect the dome lamp connector (BLK 3-way).
Check for voltage at terminal "C" CKT 1732 ORN wire.
If OK, the dome/map lamp is faulty. If no voltage is present, there is an OPEN in CKT 1732.
Either the right or the left sunshade mirror lamp is inoperative.
Chart 3
Either the right or the left rear reading lamp is inoperative in the ON or the DOOR position.
Chart 4
The rear reading lamp is inoperative in the ON or the DOOR position.
Chart 5
Battery rundown protection is shorted to ground - B1482.
B1482
The left rear reading lamp is inoperative in the ON or the DOOR position.
