What direction do you turn the exhaust cam sprocket bolt?

What direction do you turn the exhaust cam sprocket bolt on a 1997 Nissan Micra K11, to remove the bolt? I am trying to remove it in order to replace the timing chains but it appears to be very very tight.

How do I put timing back after I changer the timing belt


Hi there, Yeah this is a bit tricky. First things first. what engine do you have in ? Double cams have unique marks. You will see the left cam sprocket should be aligned with "IN" on the intake side and "Exhaust" on the exhaust side. On the same sprocket is a indent line on the edge of the sprocket on the exhaust side. The sprocket on the right side "Exhaust side", should be aligned exactly as the left one. So you have both sprockets aligned with the "intake" facing the intake side and the exhaust facing the exhaust side. You will now notice that there is a line up indent on the outer ring of both sprockets. These should be exactly facing towards each other. Now caution is advised here, even before you start with this, you must move your crankshaft sprocket to the left just so that all pistons are half way up. This will make sure when you do turn the cam shafts that the valves don't interfere with any piston. Now adjust the cam shafts as described above and use inventful mind to lock both cam sprockets in line together. Make dead sure with use of a ruler, that the lines on both sprockets are definitely lined up. Now move your crankshaft sprocket to the right and line up the two markers on the outer side with the line directly above further away from the TDC marks, "Located to the left". So to the right of those TDC marks is a Forged out line. Line the two dots on the c-shaft up with this line. When done with this you may fit on the belt and make sure that the belt is fitted tightly on the exhaust side meaning pulled to near tension, then follow through to the left cam and then over the water pump. Fit on the tension-er. Here you get two different types of tension-ers. Automatic one is fitted under the intake side cam sprocket, it gets hold down with a bolt. the wire fitted with the tension-er loops over a bolt already fitted on the motor. Using a allen key turn the tension er so that the align plate with v-shaped indent is facing directly to the bottom loop of the wire. Then tighten the bolt hold down to lock the tension er in place. Lastly the ideal method before you fire up the engine is to remove the negative battery terminal and after you have fitted the external belt sprockets, on the crankshaft is to turn the engine clock wise and make sure that no valve is interfering with a piston. Turn until you can see the timing marks you just setup aligns back to normal. On the outer belt sprocket fitted on the c-shaft, there is a mark as well, this should also line up with the line further away to the right from the other marks to the left located on the belt cover. When you have spun the c-shaft clockwise, about eight times and all the marks align back to normal without any valve interfering with any piston, you may finish of the rest and fire up. Here your good to go. Good luck

Nissan micra k11 99 wont start,engine light is flashing


take off the distributor housing and dry it out, when putting it back on use a sealer to make sure no moisture gets in to it, then take out the spark plugs and allow the gasoline in the cylinders to dry out for about 20 mins then put back in and try starting it again that should definatly work

Need directions on how to install a timing chain on a 2002 Saturn L series 2.2 liter along with the allignment marks for the intake and exhaust cams


To Install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Timing chain drive sprocket to crankshaft
      1. Rotate the crank so the mark on the sprocket is at the 5 o'clock position
  2. Assemble chain to the intake camshaft sprocket alignment copper link to the "INT" diamond timing mark on the camshaft sprocket sat_car_22_tmng-chn_pos.gif

    NOTE: When lowering the timing chain rotate the assembly 90° to allow the chain to fall between the cylinder block bosses then rotate the assembly back so the camshaft sprocket is facing forward.

  3. Lower the assembly through the chain housing opening on top of the cylinder head. Use care to ensure that the chain goes around both sides of the cylinder block bosses NOTE: The crankshaft sprocket timing mark will be at approximately the 5 o'clock position.
  4. Route chain around crankshaft sprocket and align silver link to the timing mark sat_car_22_set_tdc.gif

    NOTE: The camshaft sprocket bolts are not reusable; they are torque-to-yield and must be discarded to prevent premature failure.
  5. Install or connect the following:
    • Intake camshaft sprocket loosely onto the intake camshaft then install the new camshaft sprocket bolt finger tight NOTE: It is not necessary to align the sprocket-to-camshaft offset notch at this time.
    • Adjustable timing chain guide through the opening on top of the cylinder head then install the chain guide bolt; torque to 89 lb-in. (10 Nm) sat_car_22_ajst_tmng-ch_guid.gif

    • Exhaust camshaft sprocket loosely onto the exhaust camshaft with the timing mark on the sprocket aligned with the silver link then install a new camshaft sprocket bolt finger tight
    NOTE: It is not necessary to align the sprocket-to-camshaft offset notch at this time.
    NOTE: The camshaft sprocket bolts are not reusable; they are torque-to-yield and must be discarded to prevent premature failure.
  6. Align the camshaft sprocket-to-camshaft then tighten the camshaft bolt using the following procedure: sat_car_22_crnk_tmng-c_mrk.gif

    NOTE: Do not rotate either camshaft more than 1/2 turn in either direction with the crankshaft at Top Dead Center (TDC). To do so may cause valve to piston contact resulting in a damaged valve and/or a damaged piston.
    • Ensure that the sprocket timing mark is at the 5 o'clock position
    • Rotate the intake camshaft using a 24mm wrench on the flats of the camshaft until the sprocket-to-camshaft alignment notch seats
    • When the sprocket seats on the camshaft tighten the sprocket bolt finger tight
    • Rotate exhaust camshaft using a 24mm wrench on the flats of the camshaft until the sprocket-to-camshaft alignment notch seats
    • When the sprocket seats on the camshaft tighten the sprocket bolt finger tight
  7. Verify that all colored links are aligned with the appropriate marks on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets NOTE: If they are not repeat steps 1C through 4.
  8. Install the fixed timing chain guide and bolts; torque to 89 lb-in. (10 Nm)
  9. Install the fixed timing chain guide bolt access hole plug; torque to 30 lb-ft. (40 Nm)
  10. Install upper timing chain guide and bolts; torque to 89 lb-in. (10 Nm) NOTE: Use a 24mm wrench to support the camshaft while applying torque to the camshaft sprocket bolt. Do not torque the camshaft bolts against the timing chain as it may damage the timing chain.
  11. Torque the intake and exhaust camshaft sprocket bolts; torque as follows:
    • First Pass: 63 lb-ft. (85 Nm)
    • Second Pass: Turn an additional 30° using a torque angle gauge
  12. Install the sealing ring and tensioner assembly; torque to 55 lb-ft. (75 Nm)
  13. Install or connect the following:
    • Timing chain oil nozzle and bolt; torque to 89 lb-in. (10 Nm)
    • Camshaft cover assembly
    • Engine front cover
    • Negative battery cable; torque to 13 lb-ft. (17 Nm)

Hi, I am looking for a timing belt diagram for a 1998 2.5ltr Subaru Outback or can you tell me which timing marks on the sprockets line up to the encasing.


Timing Belt Cover, Belt & Sprockets Removal & Installation 2.5L Engine To Remove:
  1. Remove the drive belts.
  2. Remove the A/C compressor drive belt tensioner. Timing belt & cover DOHC exploded view subaru-03-25-6470.gif

  3. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
  4. Remove the mounting bolts and left timing belt cover.
  5. Remove the mounting bolts and right timing belt cover.
  6. Remove the mounting bolts and front timing belt cover.
  7. Vehicles W/ M/T: Remove the timing belt guide.
  8. Ensure that the timing belt rotation arrows are still visible. If the marks are worn off, place new rotation marks on the belt. Timing belt alignment marks DOHC subaru-03-25-6472.gif

  9. Turn the crankshaft using a breaker bar and special adapter socket on the crankshaft. Align the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket (1), left intake sprocket (2), left exhaust sprocket (3), right intake sprocket (4) and right exhaust sprocket (5) with the notches in cylinder block and timing belt cover.
  10. Paint alignment marks on the timing belt at the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets timing marks. CAUTION
    Do not turn the camshaft sprockets with the timing belt removed. The valves heads will contact each other causing the valve stems to bend.
  11. Remove the lower right idler pulley.
  12. Remove the timing belt.
  13. Remove the upper right idler pulley.
  14. Remove the lower left (toothed) idler pulley.
  15. Remove the belt tensioner.
  16. Hold the sprocket and remove the left intake and exhaust camshafts.
  17. Hold the sprocket and remove the right intake and exhaust camshafts.
  18. Remove the crankshaft sprocket.
To Install:
  1. Install the crankshaft sprocket.
  2. Hold the sprocket and install the right intake and exhaust camshafts with the mounting bolts. Tighten 58 ft-lb (78 Nm).
  3. Hold the sprocket and install the left intake and exhaust camshafts with the mounting bolts. Tighten 58 ft-lb (78 Nm).
  4. Reset the automatic belt tensioner as follows:
    • Remove the mounting bolt and belt tensioner. NOTE: Do not exceed more than 2,205 lb. (9,807 N).
    • Place the belt tensioner on a press. Press the adjuster rod down gradually (using more than 3 minutes) 66- lb (165 N) or more until the adjuster rod is aligned with the stop pin hole in the cylinder.
    • Insert a 0.08 in (2 mm) diameter pin or hex wrench into the pin hole to lock the adjuster rod.
    • Install the automatic belt tension adjuster with the mounting bolt. Tighten 18 ft-lb (25 Nm).
  5. Install the lower left (toothed) idler pulley. Tighten 29 ft-lb (39 Nm).
  6. Install the upper right idler pulley with the mounting bolt. Tighten 29 ft-lb (39 Nm). Crankshaft sprocket and oil pump cover alignment marks 2.5L DOHC subaru-03-25-4890.gif

  7. Align the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket with the mark on the oil pump cover. Timing belt alignment marks DOHC subaru-03-25-6472.gif

  8. Align the single timing mark on the right exhaust camshaft sprocket with the notch on the timing belt cover.
  9. When the single timing mark on the right exhaust camshaft sprocket is aligned with the notch on the timing belt cover, ensure that the double lines on the intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft sprockets are aligned.
  10. Align the single timing mark on the left exhaust camshaft sprocket with the notch on the timing belt cover by turning the sprocket counter clockwise (viewed from front of engine).
  11. Ensure that the double lines on the intake camshaft and exhaust camshaft sprockets are aligned when the single timing mark on the left exhaust camshaft sprocket is aligned with the notch on the timing belt cover. CAUTION
    • The camshafts can be rotated independently causing the valves heads to contact each other resulting in bent valve stems.
    • When the timing belt is removed the camshafts will turn to the lowest cam lobe position by the force of the valve springs. Before installing the timing belt the 4 camshafts are in the lowest lift position (valves closed).
    • When the camshafts are rotated to install the timing belts, # 2 intake and # 4 exhaust cam lobes of the left camshafts are held to push their corresponding valves down. In this position, these valves are held in the open position. Right camshafts are held so their cam lobes do not push the valves down.
    • The left camshafts must be rotated from the lowest lobe position to the position where the timing belt can be installed at the smallest possible angle in order to prevent intake and exhaust valve contact. Camshaft sprockets rotation subaru-03-25-6473.gif

    • Do not turn the camshafts in the direction shown in the illustration because the valves will open at the same time and contact each other.
    CAUTION
    If the timing belt alignment is off the mark buy more than 3 teeth, the valves and pistons may have contact.

  12. Align the timing marks on the belt with the marks on the sprockets in the numerical order shown in the illustration.
  13. Install the lower right idler pulley with the mounting bolt. Tighten 29 ft-lb (39 Nm).
  14. Ensure that the timing mark alignment is correct and remove the tensioner stop pin.
  15. Vehicles W/ M/T: Install the timing belt guide and temporarily tighten the mounting bolts.
  16. Vehicles W/ M/T: Measure the clearance between the guide and timing belt. The clearance should measure 0.039 ± 0.020 in (1.0 ± 0.5 mm).
  17. Vehicles W/ M/T: Tighten the guide bolts 7.2 ft-lb (9.8 Nm).
  18. Install and secure the front timing belt cover with the mounting bolts.
  19. Install and secure the right timing belt cover with the mounting bolts.
  20. Install and secure the left timing belt cover with the mounting bolts.
  21. Install the crankshaft pulley.
  22. Install the A/C compressor drive belt tensioner.
  23. Install the drive belts.

Need to change timing chain. do i need to remove the head?


Check the vehicle manual for recommended mileage for replacing the timing chain.Locate the timing chain,you will need to replace it if the automatic chain adjuster "also known as the tensioner " is damage or worn.Drain the cooling system and disengage the negative battery cable.Undo the spark plug wires and set the No.1 piston at Top Dead Center ( TDC ) of the compression stroke. Disconnect the engine undercover,vacuum and fuel hoses,harness and connectors,drive belts, power steering reservoir,alternator and bracelet,upper radiator hose and,air doct,front exhaust tube,intake manifold collector supports,collector and exhaust manifold and distributor.Prop up the oil can and take out the front engine mounting,the valve cover and camshaft sprockets,cam bearing caps and camshafts,cylinder head bolts, cam sprocket cover,upper chain tensioner,chain guide and the chain,idler sprocket bolt,cylinder head,intake manifold and cylinder head gasket and the steel oil pan. Place a steel cutter between the steel and aluminum oil pans.Slip the cutter around the the edge of the oil pan and disengage the steel oil pan,baffle plate,oil strainer and front tube. Secure the vehicle on jack stands and place a seal cutter between the oil pan and the cylinder block,slip the cutter around the edge of the oil pan.

I have nissan micra K11 with light flasing code


From what I understand it is the Nissan Anti-theft System (NATS) correct ?
The other numbers you show do not correspond to any codes I can find.
The reason the car is not starting is because the Nissan keys MUST be programmed for that car.
Make sure you did not have a new key made and that if you did you have to program it.
Your owners manual will tell you how.
Please elt me know what you find.

I need to replace my timing belt on my hyundia elantra 2003 with 1997 cc engine


Dear Friend
Removal: Support engine: remove -engine mounting, auxiliary drive belt, water pump pulley, crankshaft pully bots & crankshaft pully, timing belt covers....turn crankshaft to TDC on No 1 cylinder, ensure crankshaft sprocket, camshaft sprocket, oil pump sprocket & balancer shaft sprocket timing marks lighned. Pls note: Timing marks on camshaft sprockets should align with cylinder head uppter face, dowl pins on camshaft sprockets should face downwards....Slacken tensioner botl. Move tensioner away from belt & tighten bolt.
Remove: automatic tensioner unit bolts, automatic tensioner unit, timing belt, crankshaft bolt, crankshaft sprocket, crankshaft sprocket guide washer...slacken balancer shaft belt rensioner bolt, move tensioner away from belt & lightly tighten bolt...Remove balancer shaft belt.

Installation:
ensure timeing marks aligned.Note: Timing marks on camshaft sprockets ahould align with cylinder head upper face, exhaust sprocket mark is on recess but inlet sprocket mark is on tooth. To check oil pump sprocket positionded sorrectly: remove blanking plug from cylinder block, insert 8mm diameter Phillips screwdriver in hole. ensure screwdriver is inserded 60mm from face of cylinder block. If screwdriveer can only be inserted 20mm-turn oil pump sprocket 360". Inset screwdiver again.
Fit balancer shaft delt in anti-clockwise direction starting at crandkshaft sprocket....Slacken balancer shaft belt tensioner notl, turn tensioner clockwise to tension belt. Tighten bolt to 15-22 Nm... Applu thump pressure to belt at tentioner, belt should deflect 5-7mm. If not: Repeat tensioning procedure.... Install - chankshaft sprocket guide washer & crankshaft sprocket.
Thighten crankshaft centre bolt, tightening torque:110-130Nm. Please note, ensure crankshaft sprocket guide washer is fittet correctly. oil threads & contact face crankshaft botl before fitting.
