Need to know whatsize of engine is in a 1986 ford e 150 van plus what makes it die on me and when it does it sometimes starts right back up and other times it will not and it is drawing battery down put a new alternator in it it didnt seem to help

Sounds like it is starving for fuel. Possibly a clogged fuel filter. If you haven't changed the filter recently I would suggest that you try this first.

This sounds like your problem.....Try this, only takes 5 minutes and probably whats wrong. The same thing happened to me, it was running perfect and died. There's something called an Inertia switch (google how to find it) the older rangers and bronco II's have them. It may think you have gotten in a accident and this device stops the fuel pumps. I literally pressed the reset button on the top of it and my truck started right back up after not being able to start at all.

BACK IN 1986 IF YOU HAD A MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP LOCATED ON SIDE OF ENGINE. YOU HAD CARBURATOR ENGINE.AND ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP IF YOU HAD FUEL INJECTION.ENGINE.THE FUEL PUMP IS IN GAS TANK.OR MOUNTED ON THE OUTSIDE OF GAS TANK.

sounds silly but make sure there isn't a partial blockage in exaust system or a smashed pipe.

Do you check your Catalytic.... i haved the same problem a while a go.. i remove it and runs great... because the Catalytic was full and the combusted gaz can pass through To much Pressure

also check the left front corner of the engine compartment sometime the battery have to be removed in order to see it

Are plugs and wires good? Did you check distributor? Firing order correct-timing set right? Maybe some of the new parts are faulty? Are grounds all secure and are fuses good?

it gets worm and wont run good it dies then it takes three try to start it
