Should be right after the catalytic converter in the exhaust pipe.

SOURCE: Upstream O2 sensor location?

That is the first sensor closest to the engine. The downstream sensor is the one behind the converter.
Good luck.

SOURCE: 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix Thermostat

as you face the engine the thermostat bell is on the right (drivers side) Follow the radiatoe hose. Remove the two bolts and raise the bell still attatched to the hose. the thermostat is there with the rubber seal. You can gently pry the thermostat out with a screwdriver or something similar. Put in new thermostat be sure it is the same as the old one, and then replace or change the seal (be sure it is the smae size and thickness as the old one as I got the wrong size from Napa) Then replace the bell, and tighten, but not over tighten. I hope this helps!

Bank 1 is the frt side exhaust manifold (did they say bank 1 sensor 1?),you can start by replacing that sensor,i would check the intake for leaks ,the gm 6cly. are known for bad intake gaskets, you will see oil coming out form the frt or rear of the intake, also check your atifreeze overflow bottle for bronwish sludge, which means that the oil is mixing with the antifreeze.A leaking intake could cause that lean condition.

SOURCE: 2002 grand prix runs rough, dies service engine

sounds like you have a vacuum leak, check all the vacuum hoses and replace any broken or kinked ones, also check around the intake manifold gasket for leaks. any air leaks after the air flow meter creates 'un-metered' air which inturn will make the car run rough and stall, hope this helps

Standing in front of the car looking at the engine bank 1 is the cylinders on the front of the engine. These are cylinders 1-3-5. On the rear is bank 2 cylinders 2-4-6. The O2 sensor is located screwed into the exhaust manifold or the exhaust pipe on the front of the engine.

My 2002 grand prix was running rough. I plugged my code reader in and the mass air flow sensor came up. I changed that. Then the o2 sensor came up and I changed that. misfire on multiple cylinders came

Check for a restriction of some kind, fuel--air--exhaust. Use a gage and check fuel pressure. What was the actual 02 sensor code? Can you tell if the system is running rich or lean? In park, will the engine rev normally?

You don't think the tranny has an issue?

2002 Grand Prix GTP has code p1133. Insufician swtching bank 1 sensor 1 . What should I do, Replace it?

For a little bit technical. pcm send .450mv as reference the middle is .500mv it's rated o to 1000mv . The o2 sensor sense rich condition over .500mv and lower poor condition. It's switch from rich to poor condition all the time. But as to go near 100mv and 900mv if not o2 sensor could be at fault

I have a 2002 grand prix 3.8L and I just replaced the O2 sensor; how long will it take for the system to reset?

You will need to either disconnect the battery for about a minute or reset with a scan tool or code reader.

Check engine code 0420

catalyst below threshold (bank 1) p0420- There are a number of things that could be causing this p0420 catalyst efficiency code. The most common thing is the catalytic converter itself is no longer functioning properly. The other likely thing is the rear O2 (oxygen) sensor is no longer working properly. Other things could include exhaust leaks, damaged exhaust pipes, damaged O2 sensor wiring/connectors, plugged catalytic converter, etc

Where is the 02 sensor located in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix? The machine says that the sensor is in Bank 1. Where is Bank 1?

The O2 sensors are located in the exhaust pipe between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter. When it's referring to a bank number, it's talking about which set of cylinders. I'm assuming that you have a v-6, if it's specifying a bank. Either way, There are two O2 sensors, one for each side of the engine, and you'll want to replace both, since whatever made the one go bad has probably done the same for the other side too. Anyways, it looks like a spark plug with 4 wires coming out the top screwed into your exhaust pipe. If you follow the exhaust from the engine, you will find your sensors. Hope this helped, and good luck.
