Pull rear differential cover, remove small bolt/pin that holds pin in, remove pin, push axles in and remove both c clips, pull axles out and then remove seals....reverse procedure but ensure to fill diff with gear oil until it comes out the fill hole.
If it's leaking then it needs a gasket put on or RTV GASKET MAKER put on the cover or it's just simply cracked some how if it's the cover then take a drop pan drain the remaining fluid and clean both surfaces very good possibly spotless then apply the RTV high torque grey sealant gasket maker very thick around the edge and center where the bolts are and re apply the cover but make sure it lines up and is very clean inside also if it's a slip posi rear end you will need a bottle of friction conditioner and 3 1/2 bottles of motor craft differentail fluid as recommended by ford and remove the filler plug after the RTV is dry and refill the rear axel and if it remains to leak either you sealed the cover wrong or bad plug otherwise the axel is cracked and needs to be replaced
Leaks on the rear differentual can usually occur at 3 places the axle housing,or at the axel shaft oil seals.If it were to be the axel housing gasket it would be visible around the housing cover.Also inspect the axel housing slip yoke seal this will also be visible.The next seals you want to check would be the axel shaft seals.In order to get to these seals you will have pull the tires and drums.Once you have them off take a flashlight and look behind the axel end for any oil leaking.Those would be the only places it would leak oil.
if the seal (s) is leaking you may have a bad bearing... to change.. remove the rear end cover, reach in pull the c clip on left or rt side. pull the axel out the side, use bearing puller to pull the old bearing, install new replacement bearing seal, put in axel, replace clip, reinstall rear cover, sealing properly, fill with rear gear lube to level of fill hole. get a chiltons manual for pictures and more detailed help.
Not that difficult, raiseand support the rear of the truck and remove the wheels. Might as well replace both sides so you know you have new seals, remove the differential cover and drain the fluid. Once differential is opened and cleaned , remove the axle "C" clip that hold the axle in place and slide the axle out. Once the axle is out remove the wheel seal and clean around the area. This would be a good time to replace the wheel bearing too since you have access to them and there not that expensive. Install the new bearing and seal, note make sure you oiled the bearing and seal before installing it back and take care when installing the axle back in and "C: clip. Use RTV silicon gasket maker to seal the differential cover and wheels back on and lower. If your lazy like i am, you can drain the differential fluid and replace it with a 50/50 mix with gear oil and Lucas engine oil additives. That may stop the leak and get you a few more miles. You gear oil is (ford 75W-140) (Dana 80W-90)and the capacity is 2.6 liters and 3.5 liters if you have the 10.25 Ring gear. Good luck and hope this helps.
You will need to remove the differential rear cover,drain fluid, remove wheel, brake drum, (rotor) . Unbolt center diff. pin, carefully remove (don't loose shims) push axle in remove lock keeper, then slide out axle, replace seal, put some grease on it, slide axle in reverse all to install.
Drain axel of Fluid, Roemve Diff Cover (Push IN on Axel to reseal at Wheel side) Remove KEEPERS From Insied END of axel then Pull OUT on WHEEL END of Axel. use Proper Seal removal tool to remove seal. Also Use PROPER Install tool for SEAL INSTALL Reverse Procedure to Install. In hopes this helps you Out.

Reinstall E clip lock and new cover gasket. Fill with 75-90wt gear oil. Now I know that sound pretty straight forward. But there are some things to remember. The E clip lock can be difficult to remove sometimes. The most important thing is the seal, you will need to make sure it gets seated correctly and not torn when installing axel

take the wheel off , unbolt caliper and sling it out of the way with a bungi cord, take off the rotor, then you have too take the pumpkin cover off the axel diff in the front (drain fluid first) easy way to do that take out bottom and side bolts out then leave top 1 or 2 in but finger loose. pry cover off with a sturdy scrapper from side allowing fluid to leak out from bottom of cover. when fluid is done comeing out then take off cover. to take the axel out to replace the seal you have to push the axel inwards to remove the C- CLIP on the end of the axel shaft that slides into the inside of the pinion gear (use a extending magnet) keeps gear oil on your hands and from dropping it into the pumpkin housing. then all you have to do is slide the axel shaft out. then replace the seal .
