My 96 ford winstar will not start. It will not evan try to turn over. The battery checks out ok. Could it be the starter? I have tried taping on the starter while turning key, still no luck.

turn on head lights while cranking if lights stay on during cranking power is good...make sure gear shift is in park..next thing i would do is check the power on the small wire at the starter during cranking..if you have power on small wiring and nothing happens bad starter... if no power need to test the neutral safety switch and ignition switch

My 98 ford winstar won't start changed battery, still no start. was tring to turn over now nothing. can you help?

Is the problem with starter or the engine? Can you get a wrench on the crankshaft pulley bolt and turn the engine by hand? It could be you have a leaking head gasket and one or more of the cylinders has filled with coolant. You may want to take the starter off and have it checked at an auto parts store.
