Speedometer does not work

For a few miles the speedometer would swing erratically then it just stopped working.

Sounds that the magnetic pickup on the vehicle speed sensor has stopped working. Dirt or grease usually. That will cause an erratic reading. Also check wiring to sensor. Poor connection is rare but possible. Good luck and have a good day.

Sounds like a broken speedometer cable. The bounce around erratically, because the cable is still connected under the hood and still spinning. Even though its broken the two ends make contact and still causes some movement of the speedometer.

Usually runs from the transmission through the firewall and into the back of the gauge cluster.

Speedometer works intermittently

Speedometer stopped working. When your going about 20 mph it shows you doing about 40 to 50 mph.


The instrument panel on the 2003 Silverados had problems, eventually all the gauges will perform erratically. Chevy offered, through a class action suit, a replacement panel. Check with your local dealership.

check your speedometer cable it runs from your transmission to your speedometer it is what determines your speed if that cable is loose from your tanny then push it back in i hope this helps

Won't shift out of low,speedometer doesn't work


see my comments, not 100% sure that it was the out put speed censor or not, but after reconnecting the wires to a new censor and reconnecting the battery and clearing codes it worked. connection was not clipped may have been loose

Hi, The speed sensor on your car is going bad,
THe speed sensor work in A magnetic pulse generating a a/c voltage, but when the magnetic force come poor need nore revolutions for generate the signal to the computer.
And you can have erratic speed ,
I recomend replace the sensor.
