Look on the VIN tag in the drivres door jamb on the bottom line under axle it will have a 2 digit code. Here are the codes:

  • 19 — 3.55 non-limited slip
  • 25 — 4.10 non-limited slip
  • 26 — 3.73 non-limited slip
  • 27 — 3.31 non-limited slip
  • B5 — 4.10 limited slip
  • B6 — 3.73 limited slip
  • H9 — 3.55 limited slip

What oil must i put in the diff of a ford 4000 tractor with the oil pump for lift inside the diff

80-90 oep diff oil unless it is a limited slip diff in which case you use special limited slip diff diff oil
don't know if it is limited slip diff diff
you can check by jacking up the rear end and having a friend turn a rear wheel
by holding one wheel the other wheel will be turning in the forward direct as that is what limited slip diffs do diff do ( both drive )
other than that call your local manufacturer service center and ask

I have a 97 vzj95 prado 3.4lt v6 Recently the front diff seized and I've replaced it but now on turns while accelerating I'm hearing a clunk from the rear diff... Is this a wind up issue? Thanks

Yes it is a wind up of the axles and not the drive shafts. Your car has a limited slip diff and it is locking up.
When you are accelerating the diff locks up and your wheels are rotating at different rates while turning. This causes the axles to twist until the pressure causes the Limited Slip Diff to slip.
My guess would be that someone has changed the diff oil with non Limited Slip Diff oil.

Get a limited slip differential stopp slipping in reverse?

limited slip differentials are so designed that when one axle looses traction the pressure is applied through the side gears to lock up diff so that both wheels have to turn. If it slips in reverse then in will slip going forward . I would be inclined to look for a reverse gear problem in the gear box/ transmission. If it is an auto check for reverse solenoid operation.

I had a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria with An H9 rear axle code. I want to know what rear axle code is comparable to the H9 for a Mercury Grand Marquis?

reading forums on this reveals that the h9 is a 3.55 limited slip diff mainly used in f150 fords. However all that is immaterial as what you are looking for is a diff centre that is 3.55 ratio that will fit in your housing . The same housing will use the both LSD and normal diffs as the LSD was an option offered for off road vehicles or vehicles operating in bad road conditions

My back passenger wheel skips and squeal when i turn right

You might want to check your differential fluid. I think those vehicles have limited slip rearends in them. It might need some limited slip additive. I know it is a Chevy but Motorcraft limited slip additive is the best.

What type of fluid do i need to put in the rear end and how do I know if it is a limited slip

Hi, you could use 75 weight synthetic fluid, and if you have limited slip, there will be a label in your glove box, with option codes stating G80. If you do not have G80, then you do not have limited slip. Thanks...Coop
