Question about 1999 Volkswagen Passat

1 Answer

My car periodically dies and everything electric is going crazy..

I have a 2002 beetle turbo s with 106,000 miles on it. it has started doing this thing where it acts as if it is about to die but then it starts back up. when it does this everything inside as far as electric resets, my clock resets, my radio resets, my rear activated spoiler goes up and down a few times. now my speedometer, my rpm, and my gas gauge gets stuck and stops working. i have to turn the car on and off a few times for it to start working again. i had to recently change the fuse box that sits ontop of the battery because it literally melted and welded one of the fuses. today i went out and looked at it and it had melted the same fuse. drove the car around for a little bit and on my way home, i turned my brights on and it shut my radio off. dont know what is going on with my car?

My 2002 beetle will start but immediately dies how do you fix this problem?

The description is very vague. Make sure you have gas. then look on your dash. There is something called immobilizer. Basically your key programmed to your car. If that is acting up you will see the little icon of a key on your dash. that might be the deal. If it was your mass airflow, you can unplug it. Your car then will run in an open loop program but should run.

Beetle starts and then dies within seconds?

It could be anything. I think what you're refering to is if the ignition switch is still good.

My car has 26000 on it and is a 2003 turbo s beetle...do i need to change the timing belt?

low mileage but old ?' difficult decision but not insurmountable ,take the cover off the timing belt and have a look ,if cracking apparant at the base of the teeth then change it if no cracking then leave well alone unless you live in a desert type dry climate ,if so then change it regardless as the plasticiser in the belt dries out

Periodically dash board lights and dials going crazy, popping noise through speakers, car will not start or die. other days everything is just fine. had an electric car starter put on 1 year ago, just had...

I would check your battery connections, the cable may be faulty, if the gauges go crazy as your trying to start, then battery voltage is low to barely allowable. heat, cold, and rain are all factors. Good luck

I have a 2002 bettle it starts and then dies

could be your mass airflow sensor. unplug it. if it runs better then you need a new one! could also have a major boost leak which cause ur car to cut off!

I have a 2002 vw beetle with 56,000 miles. Last

MAKE SURE YOUR ENGINE IS WELL TUNED. MAKE SURE TURBO IS WORKING NO RESTRICTED EXHAUST..ALL PLUGS AND WIRES ARE GOOD.SOUND LIKE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING.HAVE TRANSMISSION PRESSURE TESTED.IF FLUID LEVEL GOOD AND TRANSMISSION FILTER NOT STOPPED UP.PROBLEM COULD BE TRANSMISSION SHIFT VALVES OR TRANSMISSION PUMP OUT PUT PRESSURE TOO LOW.
