Question about 2005 Toyota Tacoma

1 Answer

Tacoma won't start, or shift out of park.

My 2001 2wd toyota tacoma won't start. It makes a low humming noise when I turn the ignition, but no cranking occurs. Battery is good. All gauges and lights work, but seem slightly dim. *Also, it won't let me shift out of park.*

Try putting foot on brake, or is key in ignition, also over-ride button by shifter. Auto's have safety micro switches in these places so not to have car in drive and start, "extremely dangerous" Try this first easily missed. lol

Having problem starting my 98 toyota takes several turns in order to "catch" i noticed earlier that a humming sound comes on when i turn the key...i already replaced the battery that autozone...

The humming sound could be the fuel pump. It starts on the ignition to prime the pressure in the fuel system. It might be worth getting it checked as that could be starving the system of fuel.

In a 1999 toyota tacoma sr5 prerunner what can

Usually the key is either worn, but usually the steering is locked. To unlock the steering, muscle the steering one direction while turning the key with the other hand. Your other concern may be related to the first. For the shifter to be able to shift. The shift lock has to be activated. The way this happens is when the ignition is on and the brake is depressed or if the shift lock override button is depressed and shifted at the same time. This button is usually under a cover at the base od the shifter if a floor shifter. Hope this helps,

It's not a toyota tacoma it's a 90 Lexus ls400

Your starter drive is staying engaged. Either the starter has failed, or your ignition switch is keeping the starter engaged. Try moving the key back from "start" while the noise is occurring. More than likely, the starter is the culprit.
