Voltage meter. the voltage meter on my 1997 jeep wrangler shot up to 19 while i was driving it. it wont start anymore. i did replace the ECU about 6 months ago so i dont think its the voltage regulator. could it be the altenator? (in 97 wranglers the VR is in the ECU) all my lights and stero will turn on, but when i go to start it everything shuts off. if you have any ideas on how to fix this or what t do i would be happy to hear it

If the reg is in the ecu for sure, then you need a new ecu. Replace the battery as well because it is either bad or the terminals are bad and causing the voltage reg. to work overtime and burn up. Jump starting can cause this as well. Never, ever have your car running when you give someone a jump. It drives a huge load spike through your charging system.

97 jeep wragler sport 6cyl battery good and holds charge, changed starter, drove about a mile and battery gauge shot up to 19 volts, went back down to normal then shot back up to 19, what do you think is...

use a digital voltage meter on the battery to verify the 'spikes', Jeep Wrangler gauges are notorious for being erratic (I have a 98 TJ, how's your gas gauge working?)-

the printed circuit board gets weird due to water leaks that find their way to the back of the pod from the top of the roof seal, so it is not unusual for gauges to act strangly.

If that is not the case, it is time for a new alternator.

1994 jeep wrangler will turn over but wont start check doesnt come on at first if you let it sit 10 min or so the check engine light will finally come on and it will start and as long as check engine light...

Your engine computer is going bad. There are three capacitors inside the ecu that are going bad, unable to hold current. You can replace the entire ecu or try and change out the capacitors in your ecu. It's a common problem with early 90's jeep ecu's.

Jeep stops while driving

ecu is the computer for the car. if he haves a engine light on have him go to a auto parts store to get tested. have him make sure the oil level is not to low this could make it die out on him.

Instructions for replacing 1997 Jeep Wrangler 6cyl

Its an easy job! Disconnect the battery first! That's very importand! Then disconnect the wiring pack from the ECU. Some models are equipt with snap-systems, other with a screw-system to remove the wiring connector from the ECU. If done, there are three or four screws that hold the ECU in place with the body. Remove the screws and you hold the ECU in your hands. To buy a new or rebuilt ECU, reffer to the numbers shown on the label at your Wranglers ECU in combination with the V.I.N. To connect the new ECU with the wiring pack, be careful with the connector! You need to put him in the right position to connect with the ECU. Do it slow and make sure the connector fits to all points. Otherwise you'll bake some contacts inside the connector.

Getting no spark and only 8 volts to coil

What else is it doing? It could be a bad ECU/ECM. That is the most common issue that I see with these year jeeps. Voltage is regulated through the ecu and even though everything else is working fine, If the ecu says it aint working fine then it wont. Good luck. There isnt many things on Jeeps to go wrong but thats where I would start
