OK, bought it used, and from day one it takes me (no joke) 1/2 hour to fill car with gas..
I Had limited warranty and had it check it out. Dealer said there is something inside gas fill tube to prevent overflow.... This item has charcoal in it. (and was not covered under warranty) There was a rear end accident before I bought it. No carfax report any bad damage......
whenever I try to put gas in, must trickle it in, like 1...2...3...4...5 cents ahhhhh is this somethin I can fix... Does it need this (defuser? maybe) if not how to remove?
Ok first make sure gas line is not crimped. if it is then it must be replaced. The overflow line may be bent and restricting air to escape. If so try to use a pair of pliers to correct, if not you will have to replace it. good luck

there should be a beather pipe attached to the tank to remove pressure build up in the tank when filling up. if the breather is blocked then pressure from the tank will build up then force the gas back up the filler pipe when filling.check your breather pipe.
you have a restrictor in the fuel filler neck to stop fuel leaking out if the car overturns, unfortunately it also means you have to hold the fuel gun 1/2 way to stop it shutting off.also to fill right up, you have to rock the car a little when nearly full.autofill guns are only in USA/Canada. you cannot take out thr restrictor......
Iown 02 hyundai accent gl 1.6l. Had the problem twice. I used to over fill the tank until I had to spend close to $550.00 USD. The problem is when we overfill the tank. the carbon canister gets clogged and it damages a sensor in the assembly called "DMTL". Thia assy is located under the rear driver side of the car to the left and rear of the fuel tank. Once I replaced the carbon canister, sensor and filter the problem went away. if you let it go for a long time you eventually start smelling gas inside the car after fill ups. Good luck.
The reason the gas station pump shuts off is when the fuel reaches the tip of the gas nozzle, so when you are filling your car and the gas nozzle (gas stations pipe) keeps shutting off it means that the pipe that runs to the gas tank is not open completely, what happens is when you pump the gas in the car the supply pipe from the gas tank opening to the tank fills up quickly and this causes the gas station pipe nozzle to shut off, have some body take down the gas tank and have a look at the gas tank opening and also gas supply pipe that runs from the gas filler opening ( on the car body) to the gas tank.
Have a look at it and please don't forget to rate the answer if it was helpful, thanks!
