Mitsubishi idling problem!!??

Hi if anyone could help with this it would be great, i have small mechanical knowledge, so hopefully can fix myself with some info from you.... well its a mitsubishi libero ,manual, 1.8L turbo, it idles really wierd and when it is at normal idle speed it idles then stops then starts then stops then starts over and over, it doesnt actually stall the car but sounds pretty sick...i also turned the idle screw so it idles at high revs like 2000 rpm and it runs fine at that but i dont really want it to be driving around like this, does anyone know what this could be??? thanks in advance!!!

I need to know what year model your Mitsubishi is, whether it has a carburetor or its throttle body injection, and whether you have recently changed any parts in the fuel delivery system. Thanks

Am not shure the kind of engin you really have but see if your stepping mottor is damage or need relpacing. that problem can happen if you have a faulty unit . it also called the step up unit or sensor, if your car have air condition is turned on and the rpm goes up and down that can be the problem , the unit can be found attached to the throttle body. just below.

OPTION A : remove the big hose which connects the air filter housing to the throttle intake. Spray with a carb cleaner to remove off the carbon deposits around the intake. Connect the hose, start the engine and rev up at high RPM. Repeat the process three (3) times until smooth idling is felt. If problems still occurs, it's time for you to perform OPTION B : have your servo cleaned.

My 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS engine had a hole punched out of the engine block and I need to know what had caused that to happen and there was no warning at all when it happened, although I do need a new...

Your mechanic can't tell you what happened? Very strange. I would suspect that the engine threw a rod to knock a hole in the block. Your mechanic should at a minimum be able to connect to the PCM and retrieve the freeze frame data to see if your vehicle experienced a fatal drop in oil pressure, etc. Additionally I've never experienced a service contract provider refuse simply outright refuse to pay to have the vehicle fixed myself. I have had vehicles come in where the previous "mechanic" simply didn't have the knowledge to diagnose the issue.

It's hard to say what happened without more information. Detailed information - what were you doing when it happened? How had the vehicle been driven prior to the incident? When was the last oil change?

My 2002 Montero Sport is overheating while idling but does not do so when I am driving.

See if the electric fan motor is coming on when you are at an idle. If it is not, then you may need to replace the motor or find out if there is a problem with the relays. A good mechanic can check these things out for you at a small expense. The motor does not cost a great deal and it might simply be an electrical problem.

We just had tranmission work completed on a 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse. After work was completed it broke down because mechanic forgot to put some bolts in and a lot of transmission fluid had leaked out. Car...

I personally would be greatly suspicious of that mechanic.Losing " a lot of transmission fluid" is a serious thing and may have actually caused permanent damage to your transmission. As the mechanic has compromised their integrity, I would immediately take the vehicle to a different mechanic - preferably one who does not know the first and ask for a diagnostic on the code and an inspection of the previous person's work, with a written report of their findings. Di not tell the new mechanic of the happenings with the first - you want an unbiased opinion and not one formed to protect the incompetent or inept. If he asks about previous work done to the car, don't lie but do limit what you say ( i.e. say another shop, not Tom's Auto Repair in Cucamonga). It is possible these 2 instances are unrelated and your shop had an OOPS moment, but you do need to insure they didn't waste your transmission, costing you a small fortune and loss of time for the trans replacement. Protecting yourself is the primary goal here. Hope this helps!!

Hi there, my headlights for my 2001 Toyota Corolla just stopped working. Brought it in to the dealer and they said it would cost up to $350 to fix. Does anyone have any suggestions how I could fix this...

There are several parts that usually breaks down in the lighting system of a car, the most expensive one would be the light switch assembly.
Did you try to go to any small garage to ask them for a free estimate for fixing your light?
The parts can be bought from a wrecking yard/used parts store, for that model or you could ask the mechanic to help you out for the cheapest good condition parts.
They will surely help you out!
Thanks for using Fixya!

hi, i would say the automatic choke spring broke, this is what controls the cars idle at cold and hot engine tempatures. if it's broke it is no longer able to automaticly regulate the rpm's the for making it idle at hi rpm. hope this could help you.
