I have a 2002 Grand Marque: fuel starvation during starting

I have a 2002 Grand Marque; seems to have a intermitant fuel starvation problem during engine starting. Most of the time it will start and run with no problem. The last time the engine would not start { engine does crank over ok, starter voltage & amps ok } I used starting fluid to start the engine, once started it ran ok. Put in a new battery December 2008.
today is March 07,2009 Any solutions to this problem will be much appreciated!

My 2002 jeep grand cherokee will not start

if not just a fuse the best thing to do is hook it up to a scanner. There are a number of things it could be...coil pack, ignition switch, relays ect... Process of elimination can get very expensive.you can rent a scanner from autozone for around $100 that you get back when u return it so it is free and will tell you what the problem is for sure.

My 2002 grand cherokee loses power on hills and acts as if it doesn't have a passing gear. It has 109000 miles.

Does it otherwise start and run OK?

Have you replaced fuel and air filters?

Check running fuel pump pressure, and also have fuel pressure regulator checked for correct operation.

What you describe sounds somewhat like fuel starvation, although severely impeded air flow because of a clogged air filter could possibly produce similar results.

I have a 2002 pontiac grand am, 3.4, we thought the fuel pump went out installed a new one, fuel pump working and firing we can pour gas in the intake and it will start what else could be causing this,...

could be the fuel pressure regulator, or replace the fuel filter on frame rail, could be plugged .I would start with the cheaper part, fuel filters range inprice but most are 10 - 20 bucks

The fuel pump whines after the engine is started and intermitently after that

its getting tired

common cause is drive with the gas tank continuously low the pumps are designed to be cooled down by the gas around the pump keep gas tank full as much as possible.
