If it cuts off due to not idling high enough, try cleaning or replacing the idler air control valve. Its easy to access right on top of the air intake. This should clear things right up.

also check out the timing chain is it getting slipping from its marks.
Your Explorer has a serpentine belt tensioner which keeps theproper tension on the serpentine belt unless the tensioner has failed.

The clutch in the automatic transmission not engaging at idle in the drive gear, stalling the engine. This could also be a bad sensor causing the ecm to shut off the truck.

98/88 delta oldsmoble cuts off while driving what could it be

The warning lights on the dash will come on when the engine dies.
If it dies and starts up like you turned the key it could be a relay or other electrical problem. May be tough to find if you can't test components while it is not starting.
I assume the check engine light is not on when the engine is running.

My car doesnt start

Sometimes the battery will be good enought to run lights but will not turn car over. I would have battery put on a full charge and see if it holds up. if battery will not hold a full charge it is bad. If your car runs and the battery last a few hours then goes low again, It most likley is the alternator. put battery back on full charge and replace alt, and you are ready to run.

Engine cuts off

this is a hard one to fiqure out unless the vehicle does not starty at all because you have distinguish if it is gas or spark. The distributer has a module that may be breaking down. You have to remove the Dist cap and rotor to get to the module. It has two screws that hold in place using 1/4 inch nut driver to remove it. You can take it to oriellys and they can test it to see if it is good or bad. If you have a check engine light on you can take the truck to auto zone to see what codes are in the system. They will do this for no charge.
