Question about 2004 Chrysler Concorde

2 Answers

We left my PT Cruiser ( yr 2000 touring 2L) standing for over 3 months over the winter, and the battery went flat. We charged up the battery & topped up the oil then started using it again. On the 2nd outing after approx 36 miles the engine management light came on. We checked under the bonnet to find we hadn't put the oil filler cap back on! We have put this back on but the engine management light is still on. I am assuming that the light came on because the oil filler cap was not replaced because the car is running ok otherwise. Am I right to assume this was the reason the light came on in the first place and how can I reset the light without taking it to a dealer? Thanks Laura

The oil cap will not set a check engine lite. Just disconnect your battery for a minute and reconnect it that will clear the code. Do this with the negative battery cable. If the lite comes back on there is a problem that the computer is seeing and you will have to have it checked.

If that fixed the problem, the light will go out after three good trips. If that wasn't the problem, you need a scan tool to tell you what it is.

Sometimes when the battery dies the light comes on. The best thing to do is get it scanned at autozone or similar for codes

2007 pt cruiser alarm goes off in cold weather

Batteries voltage fluctuates with temperature. Your battery could be discharging due to the cold to the point where the alarm doesn't see enough power to be on and ready, like in standby mode. I'd recommend getting your battery tested. You may need to charge or replace it.

You need to have the charging system checked. It may be overcharging the battery which would destroy any battery. I would suspect the voltage regulator is defective.

Sounds like your alternator bearing are worn and will need to be replaced soon. Keep an eye on your alternator charging system, it may still be working fine (13.5-14.5 volts) but the bearing is warn and the alternator will fail when it does fail 100%.
Have your alternator inspected and replace it before winter comes.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

Battery charge Diesel PT Cruiser

You can connect the - or negative to the negative on the battery or whereever it will reach on the engine or body. The engine and battery are preferable. Just be sure it makes good contact, bare shiny metal is best, a quick rub with a file or sandpaper before you hook up is a good idea. Watch the guage on the charger as youwiggle the charger cables to see if it moves higher. If it does, clean up your contact points. Hope this helps.

Did you use the fuel that was sitting in there for 8 months? If so, you probably clogged something in the fuel system. Either the fuel filter, the injectors, or the filter on the fuel pump itself.

If you have a "Autozone" in your area, go there and have them run a check on your alternator. It is free to do, and they will run engine error codes for you free of charge.
