SOURCE: antifreeze leak from back of engine compartment leaking

Sorry, but you are going to have to crawl under the car with a flashlight to find out where the leak is. It could be a freeze plug on the rear cylinder bank, a bad head gasket, or a leaking heater hose. Look for white marks where the anti-freeze has been leaking. In any case, it is going to be a royal P.I.T.A. to fix. Don't forget that patience is a virtue.

Motor is ticking vey bad and it keeps using a lot of antifreeze

You may be having what was a common problem in Malibu engines. The intake manifolds can develop coolant leaks (usually externally), normally between 70k-100k miles. Sometimes the leak goes internal and into the engine oil. Run the engine and check the dipstick. If the oil seems overly full and/or is a foamy chocolate-milk-like consistency, then you have issues that must be repaired immediately to avoid serious engine damage.

I have a 1999 Chevy Malibu and the symbol that I'm

this is your radiator signal that the radiator is low on antifreeze probably due to a slow leak or just possible evaporation over long periods of time w/o checking the anti freeze reserve tank and or radiator

What could make my 1999 chevy malibu overheat

Low antifreeze caused by a leaky hose or radiator, really dirty antifreeze(should be changed every two years), or stuck thermostadt. In any case, time for immediate repair, as any postponement may result in permanent (and very expensive) engine damage. Hope this helps-Jim

Needs new motor problem was antifreeze leak---------how much would it cost to fix

You need to contact a chevrolet dealer. General Motors isssued a technical service bulletin regarding the lower intake gasket leaking antifreeze. This could be the reason you need a new motor. If it is then GM should be resonsible for replacing it. You can find the exact TSB as they are called, on the NHTSA websight. That's the National Transportation Safety Administration. By all rights, GM should have issued a recall on this problem because it is a problem tht covers several model years and cars that use the same engine.

My Malibu is running hot while still, but when I get going the temperature seems to go back down. I can smell, like a burning antifreeze. Could this be the fan not turning on when standing still?

More likely is you have low coolant levels. If you can smell it, it means it is probably leak somewhere. Check your coolant level. If it is low, I would look under the car for antifreeze somewhere on the engine or engine compartment. Most likely you will just need to replace a loose hose or a hose with a hole in it. It should be an easy and cheap fix.

Leaking fluid in my 1999 Chevy Malibu

When they changed the water pump and the leak stopped then the water pump was bad. If they changed the water pump and was still leaking then then it was not the water pump.
Where is the fluid leaking from, if there is white smoke coming from the tail pipe then good chance is that the head gasket is gone and pull the dip stick out to see if there is antifreeze mixxing with the engine oil.
It's common that the 3.4 V6 has intake manifold gasket go bad and leak. Check all the heater hose first, and try to find out where the leak is coming from.
Good luck and keep me posted, glad to help you as much as i can.

1999 chevy malibu engine keeps over heating, possibly a blown head gasket?

Overheating could be a combo of many thing's.If your thermostat is stuck you will have no circulation which will cause overheating. Also if your eng. has alot of miles your water pump may be in need of replacement.Listen for your radiator fan motor and be sure that's working and also check to see if you radiator is good.If your loosing antifreeze because of a headgasket you will see a white cloud out of the exhuast because it is burning it and sometimes you also get a little in your eng.oil.Using a pressure tester on your coolant system will help to diognos the problem,if you have a leak some where it will not hold pressure.Sign,s of a bad waterpump are poor circulation and a antifreeze leak from a vent on the waterpump.Be sure the eng. is cool before working on it.Hope this was helpfull.
