My 1993merc grand marquis 3 speed over drive tranny shudders shifting from 2nd to 3rd,fluid level is good overdrive off, would a fluid and filter change help?

I think you have a four speed electronic overdrive like my 94 merc.

I never had problems but I changed filter and fluid and added Lucas Oil Products - Transmission Additive 24 oz do not over fill.

Speed sensor issues error code P0500

sounds like a transmission issue could need a transmission fluid flush then you should be fine the first indicator that your transmission is going bad is the first gear and reverse but since its overdrive probably just a tranny fluid issue hope that helps

Where is the shifter cable located on my 91 mercury sable

First check transmission fluid levels, if the are ok on quality and good level, could be a problem with the torque converter or valve solenoids.

Hope helps.

1999 mercury sable...sat in garage for a while...sputters...i put octane boost and filled the tank...now when gas is pressed rpms go to 5000...barely goes 10 miles an hour...is it the fuel pump or filter...

if your engine is abel to rev up its not your fuel pump or filter it sounds like youve got your tranny gone (try checking the dip stick for your tranny to see how much flewed in there and to see if its discolored and also smell it to see if you get a burning like smell if you do that sa tell taile sign that your tranny is bad

goodluck and i hope this helps

1999 chevy lumina doesn't shift into overdrive, why?

If it won't go into overdrive a speed sensor within the transmission may not be sending the shift signal to the transmission. Check fluid levels to make sure that's not causing the problem. Also, check that the fluid is red color and clean.

Transmission probably needs to be serviced at a reputable shop if you want this problem fixed.

1997 mercury sable won't shift into overdrive. We think we may need to replace the transmission. If so, what vehicle transmissions will work in a sable?

first of all, check the kickdown cable to transmission. it may be out of adjustment. or just bad.if its the cable out of adjustment, it is sure cheaper then a tranny.

Check engine light on, failed smog due to leak in tranny 98 sable

Your modulator valve on the outside rear of the tranny may be leaking tranny fluid into the vacuum line and it it is being burnt and exhausted by the engine. The valve has a thin diaphram within and over a period of time it can leak the fluid into the line. This must be replaced before it becomes a situation where the tranny will not shift out of low gear. Thank you, Dana

1999 Chevrolet Silverado Transmission slips at about 3000 rpm in third and overdrive. Fine in first and second.

You might want to have the ignition switch checked because there are three wires that run to the tranny and if it does not sent the correct voltage to the tranny (electric) then it doesn't know the RPM to shift, you may wonder how i know this? because i just had a tranny rebuilt three times over this same problem they replaced the harness from the ignition to god only knows where for 150.00 and now it is doing great.

98 Mercury Sable no overdrive

I would suggest trying a tranny service. Changing the fluid and filter may help this. You can also put some transmission conditioner or something in it and try that. Lucas makes a real good transmission cleaner/conditioner. Be careful not to overfill the tranny though by adding this product. If this doesn't fix it then the soleniod will probably need to be replaced which requires tearing into the tranny

99 Mercury sable speedo/tranny

VSS (vehicle speed sensor) Tells the PCM (computer) the speed of the vehicle so the PCM can make the proper information to the TCM (transmission control module) to shift.
YOU are goin gto need a scan tool NOt a code reader to monitor the VSS to see what it is putting out for speed when the car is moving But I believe you need a VSS but do not not Go out and buy one until you have had it tested , and can positively confrim it is bad first. Please rate this a fixya if you find this advice helpful, Thanks Randy
