You may have a broken ring or scored cylinder wall and piston. Have a cylinder leak down test performed to confirm this. Other causes can be a plugged crankcase ventilation system causing pressure to build in the engine, if that is the case the air cleaner box should have oil in it. The grey color of the smoke means you are burning a lot of oil.
Try running a can of Seafoam through the tank or unhook the brake vaccum and stick it in the can of seafoam. It will clean the fuel system completely, but it will smoke like crazy while its working. Dont worry its just all the built up gunk burning off. However, you will have to change the spark plugs immediatly after you do this. But it most likely time any way.
The short answer is, if there are no external leaks, the engine has to be burning it thru the rings, crankcase vent, or valves. You could burn a quart a week and not see any evidence until it builds up on the spark plugs over time.
It may be the crankshaft position sensor needs to be replaced.Suppose to be above and behind starter ,but may be different location on your car. Here go to www.saturnfans.com to get more info very helpful site.
stop burning up your engines. cars shouldn't use any oil, it is either being burnt, which is not good, or leaking onto the ground, which means you'll have no problem finding the problem, it is right above the puddle in your driveway
