How to change a timing chain on a 1994 Infiniti j30

Everything has to come off the front of the engine. That's the easy part. Setting the timing is the most important part. You really need a manual for this job. And follow the manual when resetting the timing. If the water pump is in there also, replace it. You only want to do this one time.

Where is the water pump located on a 97 olds achieva 2.4 dohc engine

It is timing chain driven, (under the timing cover, right side of car) but bolted on rear right of engine, you have to remove the timing chain to replace the water pump

Hi, you have to remove the timing chain cover and then remove the timing chains to get to the water pump which is located beneath it.

Take care

How to replace water pump on 2.4 chevy cavalier

This is a job for the dealer or cerified mechanic. The front cover and timing chain needs to be remove to access the water pump mounted behind the engine. The pump is driven by the timing chain and timing will need to be reset using special tools.

yes you must remove the timing chain cover, timing chain, timing chain case, and exhaust manifold, takes about 6 hrs to change, I know I got the same motor and car, good luck and have fun, also you will need to buy a gasket set for the timing chain

I am replacing the water pump of my 1995 3.0 v6 infinity (same as altima) but my son removed the chain with out marking it, now I need to set the timing. How do I do this? There's marking on the valve...

This should be the same engine as the Maxima. If that is the case, there is no reason to remove timing chain or get it out of time. The pump is driven by the timing chain, but is not "in time".

The pump is under its own cover. The chain tensioner is under its own cover. The pump is removed after the tension is released on the chain, the tensioner pinned in its retracted position to take tension off chain, and the crank is rotated about 20 degrees counter clockwise to slacken the chain at the pump sprocket without coming off the cam sprockets. Then, the pump is remove by removing its mounting bolts and then screwing in three long M8 bolts as jack bolts into 3 holes (carefully and evenly) to jack out pump. The pump is sealed from the engine case by two o-rings that must be replaced. I think the pump mount bolts are sealed with silicone when replaced. I would get a Haynes or other reliable manual.

If you truly have to reset or check timing, definitely get a book.
