Oil pressure guage sticks

Oil pressure gauge sticks on my 2000 ford explorer. After starting the vechile the engine has to run for about 30 seconds before the oil pressure gauge starts reading pressure. I would like to know if the oil sending unit is not reading properly and has to warm up before it starts reading properly or could the oil pump screen be clogged?
It is running fine no rattling from the engine it is running cool.
Thank you
Chris

Hello Chris,
Before any parts are replaced, I would recommend you install a mechanical oil pressure gauge to verify there are no issues with the engines oiling system, ie..clogged oil screen or pump problem. Once it has been established the engines mechanical side is OK than we can move on to the electrical side of the problem.
Let me know how you want to proceed and we will go from there.
Good luck, let me know.
Regards,

The oil pump is getting clogged or the oil needs to be removed completely and refilled again afgter proper cleaning internally to make it clear.
as it is working properly so no need of changing the pump or any part but cleaning is required.

I have a 2003 ford ranger the oil pressure guage goes to hald way then 0 back to half way truck runs great with no problems

Check the plug first. Look at the tabs in the plugs. They should be touching from one side to the other. See a gap fix or replace the plug. If it looks good, Replace the oil sending unit.

No oil pressure

It could be anything from a faulty oil pressure gauge, to a mechanic's trick to keep you from finding out the engine is soon to expire. They sometimes unplug the gauge on purpose. Fords can run a little low on oil for a while without signs or problems. I'd start by checking your oil. If it is not low on oil, there is a sensor on the engine block you might want to replace, It should have a wire hooked to it. That is your sensor. If this doesn't work, go to the gauge itself.

Oil guage falls when you come to a complete stop while still in drive?

It is normal for oil pressure to lower when engine is idling, but if it drops too much, it could be a worn pump. To check, have a shop hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge and get the true oil pressure. Manufacturers often have a minimum pressure spec at idle and then at a higher rpm, also. Have your pressure checked against the manufacturer's specifications.

P2285 code 6.0 litre ford deisel long cranking before starting after starts runs great but oil pressure gauge drops at idle

bad bearings on crank or worn oil pump. Pressure will be up when cold, but will drop when engine warms up. Check for knock in lower end. If so, bad crank bearings.

The oil pressure guage on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee is registering 0. My oil was just changed and I don't see any indication of oil leaking anywhere. Could it be the sensor?

First off I wouldnt drive your car until you make sure that you have indeed oil pressure and that the gauge is a false reading, driving your car if in fact it has no oil pressure will severly damage your engine, but firstly i would check the oil pressure switch its located on the passenger side of the engine right back from the oil filter make sure the connector is clean and free from oil and corrosion if the connector appears to be in good shape take a paper clip and insert it between the 2 terminals inside the connector your oil pressure gauge should peak at 80 PSI that tells you that your gauge and all related wiring are good and in working condition, secondly remove the oil pressure switch and hook an manual oil pressure gauge up to you engine and start the engine the guage should have a oil pressure reading anywhere from 30 PSI to 55PSI depending on engine temperature if theres oil pressure on your manual gauge replace the oil pressure switch with a new unit, if you still have 0 PSI on your gauge then stop your engine immediatly and start looking at your oil pump and lubricating system for a problem.

1996 Explorer 4wd sport - oil pressure

I would use 10W-30W, but that should not make the oil pressure read low, have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical test guage, if it tests within normal range then start by replacing the oil pressure sending unit.

Oil pressure guage sticks

u need to have a manual pressure guage hooked up to verify that the oil pressure is within specs and comes up to spec within a few seconds, don't fool around here u could ruin the engine if the oil pump has a problem, if all checks ok replace the sender, if that doesn't do it the guage needle is sticking, I have seen both at the Ford dealer I work at.
