Question about 1999 Chevrolet Blazer

Alternator not charging, is there a fuse that could be blown that is part of the ecm in fuse box or is it likely to be the alternator?

    thanks polarcycle, i figured alternator as well but spent 10 years with chrysler and wasn't sure if gm was different. Thanks for the help.

Possible fuse issue, but more likely an alternator issue. They don't seem to last as long as they used to with all the electronics they have to work now.

A blown fuse is an indication of circuit overload. Did you replace the fuse with one of the same value or higher? is this the standard current rating for that circuit (usually marked on the fuse cover.

If the engine cranks remove a spark plug tape it to the intake manifold or somewhere where there is clean bare metal (please not near the battery) check for spark if ok reinstall plug if not replace the ECM fuse and relay with alternatives in the fuse box if this gets the pump going replace the ECM fuse and or relay then check for fuel turn on the ignition you should hear the pump run and then shutoff if not replace the pump fuse and relay with alternatives in the fuse box if this gets the pump going replace the pump fuse and or relay

OK, the problem appears to be the alternator is not charging. With a multimeter, check on the alternator output lug for around 14Vdc when the engine is running. This same voltage should appear on the battery +ive terminal. If not,
1. Check that the multiwire plug in the alternator does not have any damaged wires. If so repair the damage.
2. The 5mm wire from the alternator to the battery runs under the radiator, and can get damaged. This wire runs into the main fuse box on the RHS engine bay. There's also an 80A fuse (BOLTED in place) in the fuse box. Check this fuse is not blown, replace if needed.

Loss of power

stock car YJ ? , or all hacked up. (old cars get hacked)
2.5 or 4.0 liter engine? still have a real jeep alternator not upgraded?

loss of electrical power (first rule, we never need to guess.!!!)
not with a voltmeter. (tool that costs $20 )
alternator good (by what means, autozoned?) ( we can find out one car)
but low on gauge. what gauge in dash voltmeter.? sure...
i think you car has no charge lamp only the dash VM.

own an volt meter? a DMM? hand volt meter?

1: if the alternator charge lamp is stuck on driving.
2: is battery voltage at 13.3 to 15vdc with engine at 800 RPM idling
alternator belt not slipping, for sure.....???
if the battery voltage is near 12.5v and falling running that is
an Alternator system failure, note i said, system. !!!

this is first. if we get to here. we can find the real cause.
test 3:
is the charge lamp on keyon, and goes out running?
make sure the big fuse for the alternator in the engine bay fuse
box is not blown, 50amp?

I have no 95 FSM and my online source sucks for 95

Alternator dead: (alt good)
1: belt slipping . engine at 300rpm, nah.
2: fuse blown, the big one. (engine bay fuse box)
3: ;wrong alternator, there are many, most others will fail, even good ones.......
4: alternator ground bad. (end to end, to battery minus)
5: bad wiring to same. bad connections, any to battery or alt.
6: some jeeps the PCM has the field regulator, see link below.
ECU pin 20 , is field pin, it is on 95, 4.0L (engine not stated)

is the CEL lamp on, and throwing code 41 DTC?, alt, field errors?

the alt has 4 pins, battery, field,ground and voltage sense.
The reg is in the PCM. and if bad is a bad $3 transistor..
see same form for fix for that issue..

i think this is same as your. 1996 is big change year.

you can test the alt, PCM wire pulled !, by full fielding the alt.
grounding the field term, no wires on field pin of alt.
see FSM for details on that.
The PCM modulates the field pin to control charge at all times.

Alternator will not charge battery

no year, no joy, sorry !!!!
so here is a generic answer....
1: alternator not reaching full speed. RPM. i use and optical tacho
or just set belt tension to spec.
2: fuses blown to alt, see engine bay fuse box.
3: wires fell off the alternator.
4: dash charge lamp burned out.
5: bad alternator.
6: some years the ECU regulates the Alternator.

no, check all fuses in fuse box and under dash below glove box. sounds like there is a fuse that has been "blown" will need a wrench or socket driver to access RH fuse box.

What is an ECM BATT malfunction? Is my ecm bad?

Maybe, maybe not. An automobile ECM has no internal battery and uses the battery under the hood for power. Check the battery to make sure the connections are tight and secure. A computer ECM does have a battery and it is located on the mother board. Simply remove and replace it with like kind.

I replaced the altenator,the serpentine belt and put new battery cables on and still am not charging the battery ,battery is good. do you have any idea what to check?

Check the fuses in the fuse box for any blown fuses if they are all ok have the voltage regulator in the ecm checked you may to replace the ecm .

Why is the brake light and the battery light on the dash

When this happens, there is no charging system voltage (from the alternator). Several possible causes

1. Alternator's regulator has stopped working
2. Alternator fuse (100 to 120 amp) is blown (at battery post or inside Fuse/Relay box under the hood)
3. Wiring between alternator & battery &/or fuse/relay box.

it's possible to get a bad "new" alternator. Get it tested.

Taurus not charging.brand new alternator.battery light not on.a diagram would be helpful.

It's possible the main fuse is blown. Have the battery fully charged and start the engine. With a digital volt meter, check to see if you have 12 volts going to your alternator (the large wire on your alternator) If not, the main fuse is most likely blown. The main fuse links your battery positive cable to the alternator 12 volt supply cable. It is probably mounted on your fuse box but probably won't be listed in your fuse box layout. Unbolt the battery and alt wires going to the fuse and check for continuity, ohms should be 0 or close to it. So now that you spent about $300 on a new battery and alternator, you find out it was a $5.00 fuse!
