First check to see if the cooling fans on the radiator are working, You should be able to hear them from outside the car. Try turning on the a/c that should automatically make them come on. If they do not then you have a power loss to them. Check the relay under the hood by taking a small jumper wire and touching the terminals inside the plug going to the relay. If the fans run then the relay is bad. If they dont then it is possable that the cooling sensor is bad. Good luck. dont forget to rate.

Make sure your cooling fans are coming on. Sounds like they are not, possibly bad fuse or relay.

try unplugging map sencer, it should be on top side of engine, a black plastic box about 2 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches long, or throttle position sencer could be bad causing engine to idle from high to low. Hope this is some help 2 you.

Rough idle 1994 chevy pick up k1500 4x4

I had a 96 GMC 1500 with a 5.7 ltr. It would idle rough, especially on start up. After replacing everything under the sun, it turned out the ECM (computer) was shot. I found a used one and plugged it in and it ran fine. I think I paid 50 bucks or so for it. If you know someone with a truck like yours, plug theirs in and see if it fixes it.

I can get a 2001 chevy cavalier with 65,000 miles on it..for $3000 dollars. it only has a few scratches in the back...would it be a good car?

Depending on it's Maintenance yes. There are several of these that come in to the dealership I work at with a variety of care and miles on them, one owner a middle aged man has 129kish miles on his and changes his oil every 3k and has Zero problems, another is owned by a teenager and it has 150k on it, and comes in for 6-7k mile oil changes and runs ok..It idles rough and leaks horribly, but it keeps on tickin. It's really the previous owner and current condition of these that makes the decision on if it's a good car or not. Typically though...they run forever, they have no power, and feel scary at 70 on the highway. gets down to personal preference after that. I wouldn't own one personally, but I also drive 2 V8s, one Camaro, one Jeep 4x4, so take my advice on that.

Idles to fast

Sounds like a vaccum leak at the throttle body or the intake. check for loose lines hissing with the motor running. Had a brake booster line come loose on my 92 and it ran at about 3000 rpms.

I have experienced this problem on similar vehicles. You should try and replace the coolant temp sensor. If it is not reading the correct temp to the ecm, it will not get the right fuel map. Also, the cts will not always throw a code.
