2001 Ford Mondeo 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 168000 miles
I live in the UK and drive a 2001, Ford Mondeo Zetec 2000cc mk2
Suddenly heard a loud-ish ticking/knocking noise from up around the camshaft area, left hand side next to belts that would occur in bursts of 3 or 4 clicks at a time with every turn of the engine.
My friend told me a few days later it was the oil not getting enough pressure to feed all the cams and suggested i rev it hard to try and solve the problem and, after doing this, the noise disappeared, permanently.
However, i must have damaged the camshaft/follower by using the car for a few days with the problem occurring as i now lose a lot of mph when going up a hill and the acceleration in the lower rev range is not nearly as good as it was...have also noticed the torque kicks in around normal if i rev it by 4000rpm.
What do i have to do to repair the top end/cam follower?

Duratec ST-220 used in the top of the line Mondeo 3.0 liter V6.
The original Duratec V6 was introduced in Europe
in 1993 in the Ford Mondeo (Ford Contour/ Mercury Mystique in NA). Then
in 2000 the smaller 4 cyl Mondeo engines also got the Duratec name, as
well as others.Check this for 3.0L 6cyl...

The air bag want go off.Its the contact conection under steering wheel that has brocken off.Your steering wheel has to be removed to replace this part.If you are going to attempt to change it ur self then disconnect the battery ground wire. This will stop the air bag going off.
first you need to have the car diagnostic codes read to see if there is anything obvious the ht leads do break down and the crank sensors are known for failing,is it worse hot or cold?,it could even be you beating the immobiliser,if you next time wait for the red immobiliser light to go out before trying to start the car and the problem does`nt happen you have a failing Transceiver problem .
I had the same problem. Take note of black plastic trim piece that runs
along the bottom of the windshield. On the passenger side there is a
pan type attachment to this piece of trim; it can become detached from
the trim. In this case it needs to be positioned under the lower lip of
