It serves as the Transmission Control Indicator Light, which is the malfunction indicator light for the transmission. The fix could be as simple as a loose wire on a sensor, or anything up from there.

Overdrive flashing probably means that overdrive has been disabled due to a detected problem such as overheating. i would get it checked out.

Tcilgearshift level may flash

Usually this means the overdrive button has been pressed into the stalk. This is a control feature which some drivers use to keep the overdrive from Searching between engaging and not engaging. You should only need to press the button on the selector shaft to turn it back on.

Flashing overdrive light

The overdrive light is flashing due to a fault within the transmission. A scan tool is needed to retrieve the codes to see what part of the transmission has a fault.

Hello! I'll need the trouble code to fix your vehicle...Below is procedure with a code list...Guru...saailer

Remove the trim panels in front of the center console. Locate the engine computer attached to a floor-mounted bracket on the transmission tunnel between the console and the firewall.

  • Turn the diagnostic mode selector, located in a round opening on the side of the engine computer, until it stops. Observe the small red and green LED lights on the side of the computer next to the mode selector. They will flash to indicate the modes, with a pause between each mode. One quick flash is mode one, two quick flashes is mode two and so on. When the light flashes indicate mode three, quickly turn the mode selector counterclockwise until it stops. You have entered mode three diagnostics.

The red light flashes to indicate the "Tens" digit of the code and the green light flashes to indicate the "Ones" digit of the code. For example, if the red light flashes two times and the green light flashes seven times, this would indicate code 27.

Turn the ignition key off for two minutes to exit diagnostics. The computer will automatically return to mode one for normal operation...

Taking a guess at it, I would have to say that the transmission fluid is thermally broke down from the heat, and stress from towing. Try to change transmission fluid and filter. If this does not fix it the transmission itself may be damaged from the excessive strain, and heat. (heat is number one cause for transmission failure. After this problem is fixed, next time NEVER tow in Overdrive. This over works the transmission, and creates the excessive heat. If you tow a lot than consider adding an after market transmission cooler. Which is only approximately 100 and up, but will save thousands in the long run:)

A green light flashes on & off on tachometer. it looks like this 0/0 off

I believe what you're looking at is O/D off . This is the overdrive / overdrive off indicator. There is a switch on the gear selector lever to turn the overdrive on or off to change this. Press the button if nothing happens there is no change and it is flashing that usually indicates an internal transmission problem, check the fluid. Adjust the level if needed and make sure it is not black/burnt. Check for shavings in the fluid. If your tranny starts acting funky, you'll know why.
