2000 f350 super duty 7.3 drw steering seems to lock up on hard right and left turns. wheel shakes untill i stop and restart. i can sometimes stop the shaking if i quickly turn right and left while driving....

The control valves from the power steering unit lock in position at extreme angles. Either the fluid is dirty - replace it - or the unit is worn out - valves can be replaced separately and the unit refurbished. Or just buy a new unit.

As far as the noise you hear, it could be any number of things-- such as bearings. cv joints, universal joints, and so on. Once we know what vehicle you have It will definately help us narrow down the problem. Ed
