Cannot get trani pan off 1994 dodge dakota

What you do, is cut about a 3/8" wide strip, about 12 to 14"
long ,out of the frame crossmember,so the trans pan
will drop down

I used an air driven cut off tool

Also remove the dip stick

Your going to need a torx driver about T25 approx,
to remove the filter

I was given a 94 dakota with the 3.9 liter engine and it had no transmission. I bought a rebuilt trans but i need a picture of the correct cross member so I know what to look for at the salvage yard. .

This is a picture of stock cross-member on a Toyo truck. It is the 4 inch by 4 inch square piece of metal on the bottom side of the truck, almost directly below the mirror in this pic (under the truck).
xmember1.jpg This is a pic of a modified cross-member this guy bought for the same truck. Notice how much flatter this one is than the one above. He kept getting hung up on stuff he was trying to 4-wheel over, so he replaced it with the one below. BTW- the cross-member holds up your transmission.

He claims that he gets much better clearance because he no longer gets hung up on stuff. I'm including his web page link. He gives the manufacturer link there to order them, but I am not endorsing them... just passing along info. You can also go to your local junk yard and pic up a stock one, or your local auto parts store. Your choice. Good Luck!

Changing transmition filter

The transmission filter is located inside the transmission pan. Should take you around an hour or so to drain and drop pan replace filter and replace pan. Thanks for using FixYa!

Tranny pan

you shouldn't have to but might , you could try to take the bolts that bolt the trans to the cross member and then lift on the trans and see if there is enough room to pull it out and get it back in without a problem , otherwise it might not pass the inside filter
