That is a very likely possibility. I believe the sensor for that vehicle is about $150 and is not that hard to change yourself. If you have an autozone or similar store near you they can hook the code scanner and tell you the cause of the check engine light for free. Once you have that information you can proceed knowing instead of guessing. Also I believe that precision tune will perform the same service but I am not positive it is at no charge. Once you determine if the sensor is at fault it is not that hard to change. It is mounted on the outside of the transmission right near where the axle comes in (on my girlfriends similar vehicle it was on the passenger side). It is best to change it from the top of the car with a deep socket and an extension (have to worm your arm in there).

What does a transmissiom computer do?

1997 still used a vacuum modulator on the transmission which is connected to the throttle body, the vacuum line may have disconnected or is cracked and dry rotted and needs replacing.
the speed sensor is on the passenger side of the transmission near where the axle goes in, it is pretty easy to change. not sure if that can cause the ABS light but it can affect shifting, can cause the speedometer to be inoperable and can turn on the check engine light.

Check engine light po 731

Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0731 is a transmission fault code and has a generic description of "GEAR RATIO ERROR IN FIRST GEAR".

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the input shaft speed and the output shaft speed of the transmission through the input and output speed sensors. The proper gear ratio will produce a predictable difference between the two sensors. This DTC sets when the expected difference differs greatly from the actual difference between the two speed sensor readings.

This can be caused by several things including:
> Defective input speed sensor
> Defective output speed sensor
> Defective connections or wiring between either speed sensor and the PCM
> Shorted speed sensor circuit
> Open speed sensor circuit
> Slipping clutches inside the transmission

Please note that Transmission Control Module (TCM) replacement WILL NOT correct for this code.

The speed sensor data must be monitored with the proper equipment and the speed sensor circuits must be verified for proper function to determine the actual cause of this fault.

1998 Chrysler Sebring convertible Not shifting into drive check engine light came on, error code PO715

DTC P0715 CHRYSLER - Input Speed Sensor 1 Circuit
P0715 is detected when TCM or ECM does not receive the proper signal from the sensor.

The input speed sensor detects the primary pulley revolution speed and sends a signal to the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and Engine Control Module (ECM).

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Possible shifting problems

Possible causes
- Transmission speed sensor circuit is open or shorted.
- Poor transmission speed sensor circuit connection
- Faulty transmission speed sensor

Hope this clues helps to solve it.

My came with a code po734 is that a big problem?

DTC P0734 - Improper Ratio for Fourth Gear.
P0734 is detected when A/T cannot be shifted to the 4th gear position even if electrical circuit is good.

This diagnosis monitors actual gear position by checking the torque converter slip ratio calculated by Transmission Control Module (TCM) as follows:

Torque converter slip ratio = A x C/B

A: Output shaft revolution signal from revolution sensor
B: Engine speed signal from Engine Control Module (ECM)
C: Gear ratio determined as gear position which TCM supposes

If the actual gear position is higher than the position (4th) supposed by TCM, the slip ratio will be more than normal. In case the ratio exceeds the specified value, TCM judges this diagnosis malfunction.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Incorrect transmission shifting

Possible causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Shift solenoids
- Transmission mechanical problems
- Transmission hydraulic control circuit

Tech notes: Start by inspecting the transmission fluid level and condition, and change fluid if necessary.

Test and check it and send us ypur comments.

Ford trauras trouble code 732 - was told transmission code 732 was being produced, what does a code 732 say?

P0732 FORD - Incorrect Second Gear Ratio
Transmission in second gear and the ECM detected an incorrect gear ration. This diagnosis monitors actual gear position by checking the torque converter slip ratio calculated by Transmission Control Module (TCM) as follows:

Torque converter slip ratio = A x C/B

A: Output shaft revolution signal from revolution sensor
B: Engine speed signal from Engine Control Module (ECM)
C: Gear ratio determined as gear position which TCM supposes

If the actual gear position is higher than the position (2nd) supposed by TCM, the slip ratio will be more than normal. In case the ratio exceeds the specified value, TCM judges this diagnosis malfunction.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Incorrect transmission shifting

Possible causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Shift solenoids
- Transmission mechanical problems
- Transmission hydraulic control circuit

Tech notes
Start by inspecting the transmission fluid level and condition, and change fluid if necessary.

Hope helps.

Check engine code PO715

Transmission Input Speed Sensor (G182 VAG com code): Circuit Malfunction
The Input Turbin Speed Sensor is located inside the transmission, the code can be caused by a failed sensor or sensor wiring or a slipping transmission.

Speedometer quit, Drive 4 light started flashing, check engine light now on, slight power loss when accelerating

check your wheel speed sensors. and vehicle speed sensor on the transmission

drive 4 uses it to sense slip in the front/rear wheels.

check engine light on because it needs to know vehicle speed to shift properly.

no speedometer because it turns the voltage into a signal to the gauge

2000 Bravada ABS and check engine light are on can only get reverse and 2nd

Try a vehicle speed sensor (mounted on the transmission), this sensor (or in 1% of cases its wiring) might be bad. This would cause your problem.

If this does not fix the problem, you probably effectively need a new transmission or a transmission rebuild.
