The crankshaft pos. sensor is just above the oil filter. take out starter and oil filter and make sure buy a new oilfilter or just make sure that you dont destroy the one on the car . remove plug and then replace with new sensor. and make sure all rubber rings if any avalable are replaced as well. then reinstall starter and oil filter and start car

Tying to find crank sensor for 2002 Cadillac Seville std 4.6 liter

This answer covers 1999-2005 Cadillac Deville, Eldorado & Seville.
Example Engine:
2002 Cadillac Seville STS 4.6L SFI DOHC HO 8cyl.

This engine has (2) Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensors: the Upper sensor is CKP sensor B, and the lower sensor is CKP sensor A (this is included for the OBD-II DTC codes - P0385 references Sensor B = upper CKP sensor, whereas P0335 references the lower CKP sensor (sensor A)).

Both crankshaft position sensors are located in the front of the engine just above the oil filter adapter. To access both CKP sensors, jack up vehicle on the passenger side, remove the oil filter, and the oil filter adapter, including the Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) switch. See illustration.
tying-find-crank-sensor-2002-cadillac-3hcuyyaerdphtgzyedxwn2k0-1-0.jpg
The ARROW points toward Front of Car.
1. Upper Crankshaft Position Sensor (B).
2. Lower Crankshaft Position Sensor (A)
3. Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) switch
4. Engine Oil Level switch
The Oil Filter is the can-type object below the oil filter adapter, which includes the EOP switch. Recommend: remove oil filter with an oil filter socket/strap wrench, since it's close to the oil pan.

My car got FS engine. it cranks but no spark on plugs.replaced another distributor still got same problem.supply is on connector.

TESTING
  1. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor wire harness plug.
  2. Connect an ohmmeter to the sensor terminals A and B and measure the resistance. Fig. 1: Crankshaft position sensor connector terminals. Measure the resistance across the A and B terminals 89544g27.gif
Fig. 2: Measure the air gap between the crankshaft position sensor and the crankshaft pulley 89544g28.gif

  3. The reading should be 520–580 ohms at 68°F (20°C).
  4. If not as specified, replace the sensor.
  5. Measure the air gap of the sensor between the crankshaft pulley and the sensor.
  6. Proper air gap should be 0.040–0.080 in. (1–2 mm).
  7. If not as specified, inspect the crankshaft pulley and/or replace the sensor.

On my 99 intrepid i canged both cam and crank positioning sensors the check engin light came on agin, with the code p0340. Can it be my wiring.

What does that mean? This indicates that a problem was detected in the camshaft position sensor circuit. Since it says circuit, that means the problem could lie in any part of the circuit - the sensor itself, the wiring, or the PCM. Don't just replace the CPS (camshaft position sensor) and think that will definitely fix it.
Symptoms Symptoms can include:
  • Hard starting or no start
  • Rough running / misfiring
A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
  • the camshaft position sensor may have failed
  • the PCM may have failed
  • there exists an open circuit
  • the crankshaft position sensor may have failed

With a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
  • Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
  • Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
  • Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
  • Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
  • Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
  • Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
  • Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

WHERE IS THE CRANK SHAFT SENCER LOCATED ON THE MOTOR

The 2 crankshaft sensors are located on the front of the engine block, between cylinder Numbers 4 and 6. Crankshaft position A sensor is located on the upper crankcase and crankshaft position B sensor is located in the lower crankcase. Both sensors extend into the crankcase and are sealed into the engine block with O-rings. The crankshaft position sensors are not adjustable.
