Make sure your distributor has power when the key is turned on. It is the kind with the coil in the cap right? If the car is fuel injected, you will still need the computer though, or switch to a carburated set up.

Should be able to look online. I didn't realize it was an 83. Should be carburated already, and not have a computer as you stated. Look to make sure the distributor is getting power with the key on, and the firing order is correct

Get an edlebrock intake and Holley carb if you are going to race it anyway. Shouldn't need much else than that if the distributor is good.

Igniter no spark

Try the Pick Up Coil, it's located inside distributor remove rotor and piece that holds rotor in place, it has a small wire coming out of it. If you don't want to deal with the hassle then just replace the distributor, try one from a junk yard see if it works. Good Luck.

I have a 1997 Malibu 3.1, no fire at the spark plugs. Ignition module checked good so I replaced the crank sensor but still no fire at plugs. What could be the problem?

you have to check spark plug fire with a HEI plug. you didn't mention the coil primary and secondary coil check with del test light

HEI DISTRIBUTOR PROBLEMS

on the intake manifold you will see 8 numbers, this is your firing order
from the front of the car the left side numbers are 1,3,5,7 and the right side are 2,4,6,8. now ont the distributor cap there should be a number 1 at one of the plug towers. you start there with #1 plug wireand continue.
on a chevy the firing order is 18436572 and this is the order you put the wires on the cap. now the second problem i don't know right off hand which way the rotor turns on your engine. so remove the cap and crank the engine over and see which way the rotor turns, this is the order you put the wires back on the cap. hope this helps

Need wireing diagram to change 72 nova over to hei distributor

Hey , just take the positive wire from the coil you are removing and feed it to the + terminal on the HEI dist. cap.the other terminal under there is for your tachometer. If you are mounting a master kill switch in the bumper for drag racing- attatch the kill wire to the tach terminal also.
Thats it you just plug the three wire pigtail from the dist. base(pickup) to the cap and you are off.
Remember firing order is 18436572 in a clockwise direction. to find #1 remove #1 plug and have someone"bump" the engine over while holding your finger over the hole-carefull. then line up the slotted mark on the crank pulley with the big notch on the timing indicator. Good luck
