i replaced the rear speed sensor last fall and that helped my sluggish transmission shifting, so I guess i'll replace the output sensor. Thanks, that's kind of what I thought it might be.

My speedo also only read after hitting 25 mph, no after about a year i have nothing. I put a new speed sensor on the transmission area, Still nothing. what now ?

It is either your output speed sensor in the transmission, or if you have rear anti lock, the rear wheel speed sensor. Check both for metal contamination.

Speedometer only works after 75 mph

on some models Dodge's the speedometer works by a cable with a tiny gear on the end that screws into a port on top of the transmissions that monitors speed,if one of the teeth is damaged ,it could cause this,,another issue may be the gauge itself, sticking to a certain point, then releasing at 75 defective needle assembly possible.

Check Output Speed Sensor. All newer cars use these in place of Speedo Cables.

My speedometer in my 1999 dodge durango stopped working

Its a rear speed sensor on top of your diff case its around 30 bucks if you do it yourself only one stud/nut, the 99 durango does not have a speedo cable.

No bus

have ran into this problem before. the cluster was the problem. was a big thing with the jeeps. best bet is to get a used one from a salvage yard. the mileage is saved in the ecm. and is cheaper then a new one.

1999 Dodge Durango. Speedometer not working.

We had the same problem. The dealership wanted to do a 2,000 major overhaul of the rear axle. I found out there is a speed sensor that is easily replaced (it happened a few years ago but I remember the part being pretty inexpensive). Hope this helps.

Erratic speedometer with ABS and brakelight lit

same problem here, found 3 places that say it is the abs sensor:

Had this problem with my 1999 Ram 1500. There is a sensor at the top of the rear differential for the ABS system. That sensor went bad and replacing it took care of the problem. What caused mine to go bad was apperantly water got into the differential when launching and loading my boat. check to see if gear lube needs to be replaced also.
The answer above is perfectly correct. When the ABS sensor on the diff goes bad the speedo no longer will work, the odometer stops recording mileage and both brake and ABS light comes on. You also loose O/D or "Lock-up" in the torque converter. The sensor is inexpensive and can be changed in about 30 mins. Good Luck!

The fix for your truck is the ABS speed sensor located in the top of the differential housing , held in with one stud . Your speedometer is calculated through the ABS controller. Replacing that sensor will fix your problem.

My check engine light is on, my speedometer do not work, my ABS light and Brake light is on. My check engine, ABS and brake lights stay on all the time and my speedo does'nt work.

Speed sensor located in top of rear diff is probably bad, It sends a signal to abs module for abs, it also is used by pcm and cluster for vehicle speed.Sometimes rear diff mechanical problem can damage the sensor. Trans sensors have nothing to do with speedo or abs light.
