1990 toyota 4 runner overheating

V-6 while highway traveling at 60mph vehicle does not overheat ---why does it overheat at 70mph---has new fluid and new thermostat????

This could be the water pump that is malfunctioning. i would also check to see if the cooling fan is operating as well.

I'm assuming it's manual, check your clutch slave cyl level. You may be low on fluid. If you check the slave cyl and it has good travel and decent pressure your transmission will need to be removed to inspect clutch

Flush your car's transmission fluid , but don't do it yourself or at local shops take it to Toyota and have them replace fluid and filter . Reason why they use special pumps to extract all fluids properly . And actually replace it correctly other shops the only thing they will do is drop the oil pan and drain the fluid in the oil pan only . There is still fluid all over the lines and torque converter . Recommend dealer all the way , it's only 10-30 $. Different .besides you get genuine parts and fluids . Good luck I hope this help .

Did you belch the system? Some modles have a bleeder on the tstat housing. If you have a trapped air bubble in the tstat it will cause it to still overheat.

whilst driving air is flowing through the rad ,so no problem ,stationary for any length of time and yes it will overheat for a variety of reasons.Make sure it only has antifreeze and no water ,fit an aux electric fan manual controled from an old vehicle in the scrappy .
