Power windows don't work

Front & back power windows suddenly quit working.I checked the fuse. It is O.K. I replaced the circuit breaker and they still won't work.I checked the relay and they still won't work. How do you take a look at the switch's on the door?

I did not replace the relay. I tried one that I knew was working in its place. And it did not solve the problem.

  • lcox301 Mar 07, 2009

I tried all that you said and nothing solved the problem. Thanks for trying. I believe it is either my main off/on swith on the drivers door or it is the drivers switch (auto up/down) that may be connected to all the other swithes on the drivers door. I would like to know how to take this apart so I could look at it. Thanks

  • lcox301 Mar 07, 2009

I took the swith panel apart on the door and could not see anything wrong with it.

  • lcox301 Mar 08, 2009

I put a new relay in its place.

  • lcox301 Mar 08, 2009

    I will try the multimeter.

Same exact problem, I have replaced the relay and the circuit breaker with no luck. I also checked any fuses even remotely related to my windows or batter saver and still no luck. Any ideas? I tore down my switch panel and checked for power and it appears that I am not getting any juice to the switches.

you need to test it with a multimeter to make sure it's working

I had the same problem. There was a wire broken into where the wires go from the door to the inside of the cab. There is a rubber boot over the wires that you have to take loose to see the wires. I changed fuses, checked switches, and relays but i finally found the problem. I hope this helps. DVPNN

Ok you have 2 fuses and a relay to check. If your car was built before 02/18/02 you will need to check fuse no. 20(7.5 amp) in the interior fuse panel. This feeds the coil side of the window safety relay located in the auxiliary relay box 2 located under the center of instrument cluster just under or near radio. Also fuse 47A (20amp) in the underhod fuse panel, this feeds the switch side of the relay.

If your vehicle was built from 02/18/02 then the difference is instead of fuse 20 in interior fuse panel it will be fuse no. 27(7.5 amp).and the relay will be located in the under-hood fuse panel on this one.

Now on the id sticker in the drivers door jamb it will have your build date but it will only show the month and year there. If it shows any month other than 02/02 you will be ok if it was built in feb then you can call your dealer and have them run oasis report to get the exact build date or post your VIN on here and I will run it for you.

SOURCE: windshield wipers quit working on 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. relays and fuses are okay.

There were some issues with ignition switches in those vehicles. It is easy to change and does not cost but about $30. Remove the column covers, unplug the switch, and depress the 2 white tabs holding it in place. Good Luck

SOURCE: windows won`t go up or down in my 2003 ford

Mine is doing the exact same thing right now, the only temporary fix I have been able to figure out is, turn the car on, put in drive, then in park, then try to put the windows down or up. It is the only way it would let me put my windows up and down for now. Going to get a Chilton's manual soon to see what they say about it.

I need to know the power source for the driverside master window control unit. is it afuse or relay? and where is it and its not in the fusebox underdash---driverside

Hello: The power source is a circuit breaker located in the fuse box under the driver side dash. There are 2 circuit breakers (about 1 inch long and 1/4 inch wide. The top one is for the windows, swap the two breakers, If the windows work then you have a bad breaker. If windows don't work the remove the window switch assembly from the door. on the back side of the window switch assembly you will have a heavy pink wire, that is power to the windows. with a test light check to see if you have power. If you don't the it could be a broken wire where the wire comes from the body to the door. If no broken wire then it could be a burnt fusible link that comes off the starter. ALSO BELOW the window circuit breaker is a black connector that supplies power to the windows, the trunk release and the sunroof if equipped. This information straight out of a 1988 CADILLAC service manual. Check that black connector for burnt wires and make sure its plugged in tight. Do any of the windows work from the individual switches in the door.

Power windows stopped working

If ALL the windows quit working, then it's either a bad circuit breaker or a short circuit. There are two fuse/relay/breaker panels: under the hood and under the back seat cushion. The power window circuit breaker is under the back seat cushion, near the battery. Remove the back seat completely, then remove the fuse panel top and inner cover. The fuse diagram is inside the top cover. Circuit breaker # 57 is the one. Pull it out. Use your voltmeter/multi-tester to check for continuity through the breaker. If there's no continuity, the breaker is bad and needs to be replaced. If it's good, then you have a dead short somewhere that causes the self-resetting breaker to uncouple when you attempt to operate a window. If so, the short will need to be traced down and repaired. Good luck.

Power windows stopped

check for fuses and relays inside the fusebox under the bonnet, and inside the car, most cases of power windows are as simple as that. also check all other fuses as sometimes the power windows run off other systems, so if your cd player or cigarette lighter stopped all of a sudden it could be the same system. if that doesnt work it may have a circuit breaker, you may need to see an actual dealer for that as circuit breakers get tricky for power windows.

Seat Belts/Front Seats

seats use heavy corrent & use relays instead of fuses. check relays in fuse panel. see chart on cover or owner manual for location.

Also, this is for 96 villager seats.

Circuit Protection
Power is supplied to the seat motors through the 30A POWER WINDOW fuse. The fuse is located in the LH engine compartment fuse junction panel and is hot at all times. The circuit breaker is behind the interior fuse junction panel and prevents current overload and component damage.
