Question about 2000 Oldsmobile Alero

2 Answers

I received great advice about my '89 oldsmobile that only makes a clicking noise when I try to start it. My other concern however is the heater fan. It did not work the last time it ran and now still does not. Shouldn't it still work with a weak battery? Thanks for your help.

Yes, the engine does crank over. Should I just buy a new battery and see what happens?

Probably not... The heater fan (blower motor) draws considerably more amperage then your dome light.

If your battery is weak, not holding a charge, not being properly charged by the alternator, etc .. you asking a bit much of the electrical system, especially the battery in a weak state, when you use an accessory such as the heater fan ...

Before you buy a new battery see if the current one will take and hold a charge .. your local autozone can test that for you .. be aware that you may have other issues concerning the electrical system .. i.e. alternator, fan/drive belt, etc .. but get that battery taken care of ..

P0411 is what is says is my problem with my 1997 Ford Taurus When my heater is on it makes a clicking noise. What could is the most likely problem and how can i fix it?

i belive that the dtc that you have is not related to the clicking noise at all. apparently p0411 is concerning the secondary air injection. the clicking noise however would be a stuck or broken blend door or blend door motor. usualy the hvac system utilizes 3/4 of these blend door motors. to further diagnose this start your heater with the heat on full and fans at the normal face vents and move the vent selector from that inital position to the last position and if the clicking quits at any point then it would be that blend door motor. if that doesnt work then try to slowly move the heat selector from full heat to full cold, same deal. and if still at that point its making noise see if it goes away by selecting recirculate to fresh air....

Loud humming and clicking noise!

You could try looking at the idler pulleys or the air conditioner these 2 things can cause a noise like that, If you have to take the fan belt off make sure you draw a diagram so you know which way it goes, Sometimes you need to do this so you can spin the pulleys by hand to determin if it is one of them.

My 89 oldsmobile wont start. dome light comes on & fuses ok.

Battery is weak/dead. Weak such that it will not pull the starter solenoid up and start the car, but not so weak that it won't make that little ***** dome light glow.
