HOW DO I SET NOISY TAPETS FOR TAYOTA CONQUEST

First of all, make sure it has tappets. In our country, Toyota Conquests have overhead camshafts, which means they don't have tappets. The camshafts drive the valves down with cam followers - these are metal caps on the valves that run directly against the cams. These caps are either self-adjusted hydraulically, or set by inserting shims inside the caps.

Can anyone help? i need torque settings for head gasket and settings for inlet tappets and exusht

Find complete torque specs here:
http://fme-cat.com/LiveDocs/99999.pdf
and don't forget that you MUST buy new head bolts since they are torque to yield and MUST OT be reused!!

I suspect that you at least need to check the valve lash but as long as your head gasket is not dramatically different than original (which it should not be because that would change your compression ratio) you should be close to okay (I would check it). Or if you had any machine work done to the head, in which case you certainly would need to adjust the valve lash.

I have a loud knocking from the cam tower on a 3.8 2001 ss monte carlo. My bet is that it is a collapsed lifter. I removed the valve cover on the front side of the engine, when running and a i use a long...

Make sure the rocker arm is torqued to the proper specifications. (torque specifications: torque to 11 lb.ft, then tighten the bolt an additional 90 degrees)
If so, then your diagnosis is correct, barring a bent push rod.

Do i torque my rocker arms down on '88 caprice w/307 ? if so what is the torque specs on them

The nut is a self locking nut. so there is no torque spec for them. What you do is set a preliminary clearance with the tappets pumped up, then set final clearance/lash when engine is fired up initially.

The engine is started and allowed to come up to operating temperature- put foil over the hole in the pushrod end of the rocker arm to reduce oil spray, nut is backed out slowly until clatter is heard, and the nut slowly tightened until noise just disappears, then the nut is tightened in 1/4 turn steps until 1 full turn in has been reached. At each 1/4 turn pause, allow engine idle to smooth out before proceeding.

Once all valves are adjusted, you are ready to put the covers back on and finish the rest of the assembly.

For initial set point, when building the engine up, make sure the cam lobe is on the heal (no lift) portion of the cam, and pump up the lifter until significant resistance is felt, and tighten the rocker adjusting nut until you you feel actual resistance to turning the pushrod. move to the next valve.

HOW DO YOU REPLACE TAPPETS ON A 2000 MITSUBISHI MONTERO SPORT XLS

You'll need to get under the valve covers. If this is a 3.0 liter V6 you'll want to take the valve train off of the cams. Be ceratin to loosen all of the bolts a little at a time as the valve springs will cause the assemble to stain. As the valve train becomes loose the tappets can drop from the rockers (be carefull to catch these or wrap something around them to prevent them from falling out. (to not move the cams) once out you can repplace the tappets, before doing soing place each tappet in a cup od oil and pump them full of oil. Place a small wire in to each tappet and gentley press down while pumping back and forth, you'll note the air coming out once full of oil replace in valve train and carefully reinstall, use a torque wrench for proper values. It can be done, Ihave done it, take your time and be patient.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom
