It could be: clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump, or the cutoff switch. Could be fuel pump relay. It's in the engine compartment fues block, and labeled "Fuel Pump"

If it's either the filter or the pump, replace both at the same time, it's cheaper.

The fuel cutoff in located in the trunk, along the driver side rear fender, you have to pull all the carpeting and such out on that side to get to it. It's marked "Fuel cutoff" Not sure on the 626, you might just have to push the reset button on the module.

However I doubt this is your problem I would think it's either the relay, the filter or pump.

Cranking but not starting until second try.gas smell.Gas line replaced.Had spark plugs, fuel filter changed.Still having starting issues and today noticed leakage near gas tank.

Gas line was only repaired, not replaced. I don't repair gas lines because of this problem. The entire line is replaced, both of them, supply and return. From the tank to the injector rail. This is the reason for the long start. Loose of fuel pressure.

Car will not start, engine turn fast enough to start. swapped relays still would not start. 2003 madza tribute.

Check if you have a spark by pulling the spark plugs and crank the car while the spark plug is on the ignition coil/spark plug wire and ground the threaded part of the spark plug and ask someone to start the car and look for a spark is a spark is present then ignition is fine. If spark plugs are wet and smell like fuel there is problem in the ignition system.

I don't think it is your O2 sensor especially from the catylatic, because you mention smelling like gas and presence of gasoline. "Plugs" hopefully referal to the spark plugs, try to trace where you see gasoline and where it is coming strongest from. This is a case of leaked fuel line, fuel rails, fuel injectors.
1) Trace the source of where it is wet, there maybe a leak somewhere and you car is not getting the amount of fuel pressure to combust and thus make the engine dies. 2) Check your fuel injectors, fuel line rail, could be leaking or become loosen and is spraying gas when the fuel line is pressured into the spark plug socket. 3) You may have a dead spark plug one or more, and isn't combusting the gasoline, thus creating no compression leading to engine dying. 4) Leaking head gasket. Best is tracing where the gas is spewing from. That should help.

Hi, can you do a little troubleshooting for us to help diagnose? Need to know if you are getting sparks and fuel to the fuel rail. Methods are provided in the following post: http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5821173-doesnt_car_start_gasoline_engines
If you can run some of these checks and get back to us with results, we can better help you to get your car started. OK?

2002 ford ranger will not start. I know voltage is at the spark plug and I can hear the fuel pump prime when the ignition is turned.

First is voltage at spark plug strong enough the way to tell is by color and distance. The spark at the plug wire should jump about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches and be mostly blue in color. If your get either of these condition from a check your found your problem . If the electrical check turn out ok check you fuel pressure normal pressure is usually 40 psi or greater . autozone may lend you pressure tester and may have a spark gap tester

Odds are, the O2 sensor is just detecting an imbalance in the Air/Fuel ratio, therfor causing your O2 sensor code.

Start by changing your spark plug wires, if it hasn't been done in a while.

My Madza died while driving down th highway, felt

If you dont have much money, guessing what parts to change gets expensive. First, you need to verify if it has fuel pressure and spark, that will lead you in the direction to start looking for the problem. Pull 1 spark plug wire off and see if it will jump a 1/2" gap, If so, thats good. If no spark, make sure the cam is turning, you may have a broken timing belt.

Remove a spark plug, plug it into the spark plug wire, attach a jumper wire from the hook of spark plug to ground and have an assistant turn over the engine while you check for spark, If spark is present check for the presence of fuel pressure at the fuel rail, there is an access valve, if you can't aquire a pressure tester wear safety glasses unscrew schrader protective cap exposing the access valve on the fuel rail with key on press in on the pin in valve like you would to drain air from a tire, be careful because the line is pressurized and gas should squirt out possibly at your face I prefer using a screw on gauge. If fuel pressure (30-40 psi) is present, then look for bad connections to sensors and fuel injectors pull of the electrical plugs on sensors and injectors and reattach sometimes this does wonders sometimes nothing, but as you know intermittent electrical problems can be the most difficult to solve on these newer engines.

2002 Madza 626 has fire but seems like it's not getting gas

I had a similar sounding problem: my '02 626 would turn over but not start and I know my solution will sound strange but it worked. To start with I had a 4.5 year-old battery and I cranked on the starter until the battery started dying. I then left the car in my driveway overnight and the next afternoon, when I had time, I hooked it up to my battery charger (set on 'fast charge' ) and I pulled off one of the spark plug wires and tried to ground it then had my 17 year-old turn the starter over to see if we had any spark reaching the plugs. The car then started! While I was holding a spark plug wire in my hand! I replaced the battery that night and have not had a problem since (about 4 weeks ago). How old is your battery? Take it to a parts store that does battery diagnosis and have 'em check it out... It may just be your culprit.
