I had the same problem with my 1998 1.8 t.
My motor sounded a bit rough and loud aswell.
What the problem turned out to be was that the filter in the sump was blocked and no oil was going to the cams, causing the loud side. I was told by VW that if I did not have it cleaned I would stand the chance of the cams breaking.
Well I had it cleaned and it runs fine now. I must warn you that this is not a cheap option, as the engine has to be lifted and moved forward to get the sump off, so lots of labour costs.
Hope for your sake it is only the sensor.

OK, your car has a sensor that sends the signal to the light and tells it to blink if the oil level is low or deprecating. this sensor module is malfunctioning and will need to be replaced. this will fix this issue. Note- if it has been more than 4000 miles since your last oil change, you may be receiving this blinking pertaining to the consistency of the oil inside this engine. I suspect the sensor module is malfunctioning.

The Warning Light Comes on "Stop Engine Low Oil Pressure" what does this mean

car needs oil pressure or bearings will wear out in short time. Do not drive or start engine with this light on. Might only be pressure sending unit. Can replace sending unit and start briefly to see if problem resolves. If light still stays on, shut off engine and have oil pump replaced.

The oil light keeps flashing with a beep beep sound. i changed the oil pressure switch and the problem still continues.

DON'T DRIVE IT !!!! DON'T START IT AGAIN UNTIL YOU PUT A TEST GAUGE ON IT. you MUST have a gauge put on it to check for pressure. flashing and beep beep mean no pressure... not good. explain in detail how/when this happened ??

ABS light, brake light, tachometer to zero, oil light, a/c

i can guarantee that you have several shorts in your wiring harness that is leading to all of your accessories and switches. find the electrical shorts and you will fix your problem. also your sensors (idiot lights) are popping on because of defective connections in the wiring. also check all of your relay circuits and fuses.
