Question about 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Transmission goes into safe mode (will run in third gear only). This problem started after I had the trany rebuilt. Trany shop said it must be an electrical problem so I took it to my regular mechanic and he has replaced the TCM twice, and gone thru everything he can think of. He says there are no electrical problems outside the trany. Returned to trany shop and they replaced all electrical components inside the trany. I drove it home, 3 miles, and it ran execellent. Later that day we drove it 1.4 miles and it went into safe mode again. The TCU/SRS DIAG fuse (10 amp) keeps burning out. Everyone is extremely frustrated! Both shops are very reputable.
Blown fuse is a sign of a problem of a bad elect. circuit, grounding wire, wires touching each other, pinched wires, corrosion in elect.connection, unless its a common problem it can be hard to find!seems theres no quick fix, maybe they should refer you to some one that specializes in car elect.problems.

"Things to check before even contemplating a transmission overhaul:
Check electrics - Alternator and battery.
Replace DME Relay and Fuel Pump Relay - not expensive.
Remove disassemble, clean and reassemble gear selector switch - If it looks beyond saving, replace ($200)
Service the transmission ($130 from a specialist) and check/replace transmission speed sensor ($90)"
