Question about 1992 Chevrolet Caprice

1 Answer

1998 Chev Malibu. Had damage to passenger doors. Body shop replaced one door, and repaired the other. They transferred window motors, and all electrics from original door into new shell. Since thenFuel Guage hangs down to bottom of guage, and when key switched on it jumps to Empty, and stays there even with full tank. Could wires have been damaged or is guage just shot, or fuse blown or what? Any suggestions. Shop says they did nothing wrong. Bill Guy

Thanks for the feedback, but problem has already been solved. The needle had jumped over the "rest pin" and fallen to the bottom of the guage. When power was switched on the needle would come up and
get stuck UNDER the "rest Pin" at the EMPTY mark.
I just worked the needle up over the "Rest pin" .....problem solved.

I doubt that shop did anythng wrong by just working on the doors.
I would first check and make sure you have a good ground for the sending unit in the tank. I guess it is possible though that the jolt from the accident could have messed up the sending unit.

Possible broken wire in harness going from door to body. It is in the rubber boot near the hinges. This is the most common area to cause your problem.

1999 windstar passenger window won't go up or down

Start by checking the wiring to the door panel for any damage. Then pull the door panel and check for voltage at the switch and at the motor, with the switch depressed. If the voltage is present at the switch and not at the motor, replace the switch, If there is voltage to the motor when the switch is depressed, replace the window regulator. If there is no voltage to the door, the problem is in the wiring prior to the door. Check all plugs and sockets for tightness, possible corrosion or damage.
I hope this helps.

I have a 1998 toyota coroloa LE and the passenger side power door locks dont work . I would like to replace them. Also, the power window on the front driver and passenger side dont stay completly up and...

Hello. The power windows each need a new window motor assembly which includes a new track system. The advantage to the assembly is that it is very difficult to remove the motor and install a new one. the power door locks on the passenger side the most likely cause is the power door lock actuator, about a ten dollar part.

Did she get a new door or one from a salvage yard? If new did they move her window mtr over to the new door? If salvage they may not have bothered to change out- or you may also check that the wires that go from the door post to the door are hooked up or not worn thru from the door being damaged before.

The passenger window came off the track. i need to remove the door panel and replace the window on the track/

My friend had 3 of 4 window lifts fail... the cable comes of the pullies and damages the plastic pully tracks. They're not repairable We bought new window lifts for iton the web. They're not too hard to replace. The aftermarket ones had crumby motors so we put the original motors off the broken lifts on. They've worked great since.

Either the relay is shot, or the sensor is bad. As new as it is, I don't believe the fan motor would be bad.

Passenger front window motor

remove the door panel. you probably need to remove the door handle and window controls first... look for screws and take them out. careful not to lose them. the door panel should be connected by snaps around the whole perimeter of the door, just pop these one at a time until the panel comes off. you should see the window motor and everything should be pretty obvious from there.

1998 Chev Malibu; Fuel Guage shows Empty.

Hello: Thanks for the follow up. Yes I did fix it. Somehow the needle had slipped over the rest pin
on the guage face, so it rested down in the bottom of the guage. When power was applied it came
up but was now stuck UNDER the rest pin at the EMPTY mark. I got a suitable piece of wire, and
manouvered it through the Odometer reset shaft hole, and carefully worked the needle back on TOP
of the rest pin......Problem solved. I have leared that this happens quite frequently to these Malibus.

Thanks again,
Bill.

you mentioned tht the quarter panel was hit before you owned it was the door hit also
if you think bout it small breaks in the wire from the accident could have got weather in them over time and cause there connections to corrode or deteroiate let an automotive electrical shop give it a look
