Question about 1993 Isuzu Trooper

The gas, brake, battery, cruise control, and 02 sensor lights all come on and the voltage drops and the alternator tested good. When voltage comes up lights go out. Fluctuates between 12 and 16 volts when charging.

    i have this problem when i wash the car due to the fact that altenator is near the passenger front wheel. also power steering fluid constantly leaks into the alt.

It sounds to me like the voltage regulator is acting screwy.I believe on your vehicle it is an integral part of the alternator.The alt.may be testing satisfactory as far as output but it may not be regulateing the voltage correctly.

The crusie control not working would be caused by brake lights being on same as for the key not coming out . You need to test the brake pedal position sensor . The brake pedal position sensor is under the dash hooked to the brake pedal arm . You need a wiring diagram to tell which wires are what . The pedal position sensor isn't like brake light switch from years past , it's an input for the BCM - body control module .There is three wires at the switch , 5 volt ref. , ground and signal . All go to theBCM . You could have a sensor problem , problem with the BCM . There could be DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the BCM .
The brake pedal position sensor is used to sense the action of the driver application of the brake pedal. The body control module (BCM) provides a 5-volt reference voltage and low reference to the brake pedal position sensor. The position sensor provides an analog voltage signal back to the BCM that will increase as the brake pedal is applied. When the brake pedal is applied, the BCM will then apply battery voltage to the left and right stop/turn signal lamp supply voltage circuits and the center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) supply voltage circuit illuminating the stop lamps. At the same time the BCM applies battery voltage through the signal circuit to the transmission control module (TCM) and the engine control module (ECM) indicating that the brakes are applied.

Your best bet would bet to take it to qualified repair shop

I have a 1995 poniac bonneville and every time i press the brakes the gauges drop. Battery is good. Alternator good. Lights dim and some time kills my car


the brake lights will not kill a car or dim lights so there is a massive short in the system or the battery is not as good as stated
check for battery terminals ( posts and terminals) are shiny clean and tight including the ground wire for the battery
have the battery load tested ( not voltage tested )
check the alternator output ( auto electrician ) check the drive belt is in good condition and tight

Indicator lights on the dashboard won't go out


Usually when your lit up like a christmas tree its a sign of battery not getting full charge. Check the wring harness first, (if alternator is new it should be under warranty so worth checking that out.) Especially if you have a multimeter handy: check DC voltage at the battery. with it running a decent charge would be abour 13.7-14.1. if you're some where around there you're good. if it's below that your alternator is failing in some manor.

You should use a motorcraft alternator , Not aftermarket ! Do you know how to do automotive electrical circuit testing ? Voltage drop testing , How to read an use a wiring diagram to pin point places in a electrical circuit to do tests ? Do a charging system voltage drop testing , test engine ground etc...

Crusie control does not work on 2011 gmc sierra 1500 and I've already replaced the switch?


If the switch is replaced,then it can be wiring issue or faulty cruise control board.But as the switch is replaced,get the voltage at the switch tested to confirm the switch is actually receiving voltage.If no voltage received at switch power supply wire then ,apply external 12 volt power to the cruise control switch wire and then see if cruise control comes ON.If yes,then you know wiring is issue.

Here is a simple test to determine the condition of the battery and alternator.
First, make sure the battery posts are clean and the cables are in good shape.

Using a volt meter, check standing battery volts at the posts, with nothing in the car on.
Lets say 12 to 13 volts is good. If standing battery voltage is way less than 12 volts the battery is probably bad.
Now start the engine, make sure no electrical items are on and check the battery voltage at the posts again. This reading should be 1 to 1.5 volts higher than the first reading.
If there is little or no change, or less volts then the alternator is bad.

Just for fun, while the engine is running, turn on the things you normally have on when driving and check the voltage one more time. If volts continue to drop, then without a doubt its the alternator.

Maximas with the VE30DE and VQ30DE engines use a distributorless ignition system that is controlled by the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM receives a signal from the crankshaft sensor (the CPS - Crankshaft Position Sensor), and processes the signal based on inputs
from other various engine sensors, including the Oxygen sensor.
(this is the role of the O2 sensor in ECM operation).
Then the ECM sends signals to each of the individual coils in the proper firing order.
This system is more efficient than a distributor, and has fewer moving parts. The high voltage coils are directly attached to each spark plug, allowing a higher energy spark within the cylinder. A high energy spark means a faster, more thorough burning of the air/fuel mixture, which produces more power and lower emissions.


SECONDARY SPARK TEST - works for all cars, including Maxima.


1. Remove the spark plug.

2. Install the spark plug to the ignition coil/coil pack, then attach the coil wiring.

3. Ground the plug at a good ground location on the engine.

4. Crank the engine and check for spark.

5. If spark occurs, the ignition system is functioning properly.

6. If no spark exists, test the ignition coil/coil pack, power transistor and related wiring.

HEI Ignition Spark test - works for all cars, including Maxima.

The next level test you may want to try is a HEI (high energy ignition) spark tester kit. Cost is
about $30 at most auto parts stores. Harbor Freight Tools sells a chinese equivalent for about $16.
Place the spark tester on each of the spark plugs, and watch as the little light in the tester will
light up each time the spark plug is fired by the computer. You can actually see weak or
intermittent sparking as the motor runs - you can tell by the relative strength of the light as
you compare the intensity and duration of the light across all 6 cylinders.

If your problem were the alternator (or its built-in voltage regulator), your battery would not be
getting a proper charge, and you
wouldn't be able to start the car after a drive, since the battery would have been drained during the
drive - normally, the alternator will both charge the battery and run all electrical
features of the car during a drive.

To test your alternator, place your DMM (digital multimeter) across the battery terminals while the
car is running - it should read 13.5VDC to 14.5VDC. With the car off, you can test your battery
voltage with the same DMM - it should read 12.65 VDC (for a fully charged battery).

Alternatively, you can take your car to Advance Auto Parts, AutoZone, or Pep Boys, and they'll
attach their "charging system tester" to your car and give your car a nice test for free.
I do this with my customers' cars just to get that nifty printout of the problem. Its nice
to show a vehicle owner somethng in black & white when I'm recommending a new charging
or ignition system component (some of which can be a bit pricey).

Hi, this can happen when the voltage drops too low. If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage at the battery with the engine running. It should be around 14 volts. If it is much less, remove the alternator and have it tested at your local parts chain. If the voltage is good, you may need a new instrument cluster. Battery and brake lights flicker and headlights dim


Sounds like a low voltage problem, alternator not charging properly. When you press the gass the motor takes more juice from your battery to fire the spark plugs have you had your charging system tested (most auto parts places do it for free)? Either that or a loose wire causing the short. Check all grounds under the hood and make sure they all have a good contact

My 02 yukon has a tendency to stall when I'm turning into a parking space or backing out of one. It only does it a really slow speeds. When i come to red light the engines battery gauge drops than picks up...


Did you clean the mass air flow sensor when you changed the filter? Get some MAF sensor cleaner and follow the directions. Have the alternator tested. Do you run the gas tank all the way to empty all the time? If so the pump may be shot the pump needs to be submerged in gas to keep it cool if you run it below 1/4 tank a lot its life is considerably shortened. you could also have a vacuum leak ,so that when you apply the brakes there is not enough vacuum left to run right. lastly the Idle air control motor could be weak.
