1999 explorer stock subwoofer

I am the proud owner of a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport. It has the premium sound and the stock 10'' sub in the rear quarter panel is blown. The replacement units cost close to $300! I want to fit in an 8'', I know it will fit, but would anyone know the specs on the stock amp? RMS power? Max to load?

Thanks for the help. I took out the factory equipment last week. I replaced my head unit with an aftermarket Alpine I had from my last vehicle. I fit a compVT 8" from Kicker into there with an Orion Cobalt 300.2 amp. The amp runs off of speaker level inputs, but I ran pre-amp from the head unit with a EFX kit. The sound has a big improvement from stock, while keeping the stock look and enclosure. You could definatly fit a 10'' in there with a new box. All this cost under 200, plus my time. Crutchfield.com is a great site for car audio.

I would be very proud of that truck as the sub that came with the truck was only a 8". The only one that works is the factory model as it is a 1 1/2 - 2 ohm speaker; replacements are 4ohm. You will have to replace the amp as well if you put in an aftermarket sub. Oh and apparently the amp will have to have "speaker level" inputs as opposed to pre-amp inputs. I have a 1999 Eddie Bauer wih a blown sub and I'm trying to decide what to do as well. The speaker is $400 with tax in Canada! Good luck.

Can you replace a stock amp with a after market amp without rewiring speaker 2001 sport track

It depends on whether you have the standard audio system or a premium sound system. The standard system has no factory amplifier, the premium system has a factory amp and some other gimmicks that are hard to interface with. A proper OEM amplifier upgrade will require changing the factory speakers with stronger replacements, as well as adapting the factory head unit output to a signal your new amplifier will like. More often than not, it is more economical and better sounding to just change the factory speakers and run the replacements off your factory system. To drastically improve the sound system, it is more effective to just change everything.

How to remove rear quarter panel

It has to be cut off with a sheet metal power shear and the new part welded back on, it is not for the home repair person, a skilled body repair man needs to do this.

How to get to the stock subwoofer, in 200 eddie bauer expedition

It should be mounted on the passenger back. you will have to remove the rear quarter interior panel, The trim where the hatch locks and around the trim where the hatch meets the rear. once the trim is removed you can access the sub, it is bolted to the car and plugs into the factory amp, which is located right in front of the sub. After taking the bolts out, the sub will come out.

Need keyless entry code for a 04 an 99 ford explorer

On your 99 model the module is located behind the left quarter trim panel,mid-way.You maybe able to see it by removing the speaker cover or the cupholder on top. The module will have a sticker with a 5 digit code.
On the 04 the model is behind the right quarter trim panel toward the front about even with the right rear door stricker.
