1995 isuzu Rodeo engine noise

I have a 95 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 with 80k mi. and an intermittent clatter. Sometimes it's on start-up other times it occurs after I've been driving for a little while. Most times it's so loud I'm compelled to check the oil level. I tried a heavier oil with an oil treatment. Any ideas?

Valve guides worn and tappet adjustment required, can check tappet adjustment first to see slightly better before removing heads and getting valve guides repaired/replaced on heads common problem
if raise revs to 1500-2000rpm and hold does clatter come and go come and go (valve guides) if there all the time tappet clearance issue
if there only under load (1st rev up) for a couple of times then stops possible big end bearing
all these are common for this engine

I had a noise onmy 2004 that sound similar. It was my heat shield. Noises are usually loose things.

I had the same problem, it end up beeing that is a big mistake using heavi oil, I did some research and looks like we have to use ONLY 5-30 castrol oil, I had 20-50 and I had that noise on start ups, now that I changed th oil works just fine, when you change use the 5 or 10 minute engine flush for v8 engines, thenm change the oil. good luck!

I'd advise you run a compression check on all the cylinders. I believe the 3.2 Isuzu engine for that year is still a pushrod engine. You could have a bad lifter that might be sticking. You can also use a stethoscope to listen for any odd noises. Unless you have a broken rod. I'd have a helper start the engine while your at the front with the hood open and listen for the noise, figure out where its coming before you can really determine your best point of action.

Is there a reset button on a 95 isuzu rodeo

I just read a post about the reset sequence - "(depress accelerator slightly, start engine, run for three seconds, shut off for ten seconds, then restart) it went back to normal and has run fine for months."

1995-96 Isuzu Rodeo transmission swapable?

No they are not compatible. They changed the crank between 95 and 96. I have a 96 that needed an engine swap and the dealer that I bought it from was paying for the engine, he bought a 95 engine and after a month of trying the mechanic said no way no how, the crank between the two is different.

I have a 95 Isuzu rodeo. The engine makes a loud, almost diesel engine noise. When I am accelerating, the noise seems to go away. When I was shopping for this vehicle, I saw many ads that said their's make...

ATTENTION!! Do not run the engine if you do not want to have to buy an engine!! I just solved this problem with my own 95 Rodeo the problem you are having is common on 95 rodeo with 3.2 L engine. Failure of the hydralic timing belt tensioner will allow the tensioner pulley to knock against the top of the tensioner unit ( inside timing cover lower left side of crank pulley little cylinder looking part ) held in by 2 bolts when you take it off if you can depress the button its bad . Dealer has part for $110.00, so go to auto zone but they dont have it listed for 95 rodeo have them look up timing belt tensioner for 95 honda passport $76.95 takes 2 days VDO (Vendor Order only) not a very hard job have fun dont forget to change the timing belt and water pump for good measure after the complete job is done you should not have to worry about it for another 70,000 miles.have a good day
