I have a 95 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2 with 80k mi. and an intermittent clatter. Sometimes it's on start-up other times it occurs after I've been driving for a little while. Most times it's so loud I'm compelled to check the oil level. I tried a heavier oil with an oil treatment. Any ideas?
valve guides worn and tappet adjustment required, can check tappet adjustment first to see slightly better before removing heads and getting valve guides repaired/replaced on heads common problem
if raise revs to 1500-2000rpm and hold does clatter come and go come and go (valve guides) if there all the time tappet clearance issue
if there only under load (1st rev up) for a couple of times then stops possible big end bearing
all these are common for this engine
I'd advise you run a compression check on all the cylinders. I believe the 3.2 Isuzu engine for that year is still a pushrod engine. You could have a bad lifter that might be sticking. You can also use a stethoscope to listen for any odd noises. Unless you have a broken rod. I'd have a helper start the engine while your at the front with the hood open and listen for the noise, figure out where its coming before you can really determine your best point of action.

I have a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo, 2x4 4C 2.2L. When I start the engine, about 70% of the time it makes a weird scratching and noise. It doesn't last long, but it's very annoying and I can't find what the problem is. My clutch has been slipping, and I was also wondering if it has anything to do with that. Thanks

I need a wire diagram for the ECM and radio constant hot, as well as the dome light circuits. Or the location and color of the wire that connects these to the battery. I shorted out the rear domelight, and figured these are the only circuits that are not working. I'd rather not pull the dash out and pull the harnesses apart trying to find the problem. There is no dealership near me. The closest one is over an hour away since my local shop dropped the Isuzu line.
