1996 Olds Aurora will not start.

Hello, can you please help me?
I have a 1996 Olds Aurora that was getting progressivly harder to start over a few months time. Motor would crank and crank and crank, but not fire. Would eventually catch and run, sometimes with a mini-backfire. After it started in the morning, it would run fine and start any other time of the day. Then on the way to work one morning, I was at a red light and it was running fine, then all of a sudden, it stalled. Since then, I have not been able to get it to start again and am out of ideas. Please help....

Hi, I had the same problem with my dad's 1996 Aurora. It was hard starting and backfire sometimes but when started up it ran fine. I had to change the fuel pressure regulator and never had any trouble since. Just to confirm read forums on the Aurora owners sight.

You may want to try to replace any bad coils.

3.5L Olds Aurora: Had overheating. Cold air blowing, decompression in motor.

You have (at best) blown a head gasket, or (at worst) cracked the block of the engine.
Cars today, being mostly aluminum, break in this manner rather easily.
Repairs will cost you many hundreds or a few thousands of dollars. The car cannot be used until the engine is repaired.
God bless your efforts.

While cranking loud backfire than i restart engine again than it cranks than starts up,this happend about 6 times during 3 months. Car did same thing yesterday, but it just cranks won't start 98 olds...

Not sure if you have a 1996 Cadillac Seville or a 1998 Olds Aurora but I would check the Ignition Coil Packs. One or more of them may need to be replaced. Also if you were working on the car and got the wires plugged onto the wrong coils then the firing order sequence would not be correct and this can cause a misfire or backfire conditon.

Ignition wires cannot rest near the primary wire harness of the ignition module, which can cause electrical interference and a no start condition or a misfire condition

On my friends 1997 Cadillac Seville it was easy to replace all 4 coil packs took less than 30 minutes and made the car run much better. Just make sure to get the firing order right. If necessary find a diagram of the correct firing order for you vehicle.

A good place for mail order auto parts is

I have pasted a picture below of what an ignition coil pack looks like

My olds wont turnover as im tryin to start it but it has been sitting for a while like six months what should i do for process of elimination its a 1996 aurora oldsmobile

Pretty good chance that most cars will run the battery down with no use over 6 months.
Put a battery charger on it first - and leave it on for a good amount of time.

How minny quarts of oil dose a 96 olds aurora hold

A typical automobile holds 4-5 quarts of oil.....Depends on the size of motor. If changing yourself, Drain out all oil, change filter, put oil plug back in. Put 3- 31/2 quarts back into car. put oil cap on and start car. Let run for 2-3 minutes then shut back off. Wait for a few. Pull out dipstick wipe, put back in then pull out a second time...Now you know how much you need to top off level.

97 Olds Aurora hard starting in the morning. It cranks for 10-15 seconds then starts. After a few try's it will then start. Could this be a fuel regulator problem?

One item to include in your investigation is OCTANE level of your fuel. You MUST burn the LOWEST for yoru car. Higher octane is less explosive than lower (reverse from what you may think...)

Burning higher octane often causes starting complaints.....
