A common problem is if the fuel pressure regulator leaks internally. This causes fuel pressure to bleed down over time and makes it hard to start the vehicle if it has been sitting for usually more than a few hours. Sounds like that could be what you are dealing with.
lifting the truck bed off the frame works best if you dont have a lift..take the fuel neck loose from bed and remove bolts holding bed to frame from the drivers side..loosen the bolts on passenger side..raise the bed on drivers side while watching bumper to bed clearance on passenger side.. you should get enough clearance to remove fuel pump from tank
You will need to either take the bed off of the vehicle or drain the fuel tank and drop it on the ground while layin on your back.If you have a couple buddies to help you out then the taking off the bed way is much easier especially if this is your first time doing a pump like this. Please do get back to me if you have any more questions...thx..jay
take the six bed bolt loose and then take three buddies slide the bed back put in the new pump slide it back n place and put the bed bolts back in. if u drop the tank u can easily break the hard plastis lines that go to the fuel tank. u only have to take the fill lines and taillight wires loose this way its alot quicker, and easier.
get a scanner to check the code .it could be fuel pump or relay. to change fuel pump its not easy or hard . but dangerous. gasoline is main factor . if you got a full tank of gas .you have to safely remove gas and tank. you dont have to remove truck bed . you have to work under the truck . you have to support gas tank when removing the fuel pump.
To remove the fuel pump, you need to either drop the fuel tank or remove the bed. The pump is in the fuel tank. Personally, I remove the bed, it is easier than dropping the tank, and, more often than not, the tank bolts breal off, or you damage the metal lines on the sending unit. Fuel filter? I NEVER change them unless the fuel is contaminated. It is in the engine compartment; down low. Note that if you DO change the filter, be prepared to replace your fuel lines. The filter metal and the line metal are slightly dis-similar, and "galding" is always possible. That being said, if you take the filter off of the line, 99 times out of 100 the threads on the line will stay on the filter. Not good.
