Question about 1993 Ford Crown Victoria

1993 Ford Crown Victoria won't start....

I started my car and let it run a minute before I put it into gear. When I did engage it and started to move, it died on me. It would not do anything after that except the starter would click once and stop. It would seem that maybe a battery cable was loose so I checked them and they were both tight. This car has a push button switch hooked up to it mounted beside steering column It is directly hooked to starter and has worked fine since i got the car about a year ago. Okay, I thought maybe a dead battery so I boosted it and even let it set a long time to hopefully build up more. Same thing, turn ignition over , push the crank button and the starter clicks once and that is it. I took starter off and tested it hooked straight to a battery and it works perfect. The Bendix comes out and spins. Anyways, tried it on the car again to no avail. I then traded starters and same thing. Works off the car but not on. The solenoid is attached to the side of starter. I took starter to 2 local parts stores to have them test it. They say that the a starter and solenoid is strong enough off the car to work right but when put on the car the solenoid isn't pushing enough juice to turn my flywheel. I have checked all the wiring from battery to starter to ignition and all is okay. I just can not think of anything else to try. Please respond to me soon.

I know what you're talking about kind of. But will it start at all without the torque converter?

So Basically, if the car DOES start then I just need to replace the torque converter???

Its the starter the solenoid is grounded though the starter when you put positive power to
the solenoid its grounded through the starter windings. when brush's start waring out
the stater cannot keep the currant constant under the load of starting the engine. but out of the car
the starter will run. if you bypass the solenoid it can not engage the flywheel and the starter
it will spin. It's the starter and get a new solenoid too.

1993 ford crown victoria will not start

This sounds like a bad fuel pump. start engine with the fluid spray and leave it in park and try to rev the engine and if it dies then check pump or relay but i would bet the pump is bad.

Have you checked the fuel pressure since you replaced the pump ?
Did you jumper the relay to make the pump run and see if the engine will run ?

I have a 93 crown victoria and it runs great but more often when I put it into park it doesnt want to start again. I have to reput it in park 3 or 4 times.

Bad PRNDL switch(park/reverse/neutral/drive/low).May be adjustable, but most likely the switch is bad.As a temporary/free solution, try starting in Neutral(USE YOUR PARKING BRAKE!)

How to replace 1993 Ford Crown Victoria starter

The starter will be under the car on the passenger side. You will need to raise and support the vehicle. There will be two bolts that hold the starter onto the transmission. Remove those two bolts and lower the starter. You can then remove the positive cable end and the smaller start terminal wire. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Also check to see if there is power in the start wire form the ignition switch, the wire is a white wire with pink stripe, most likely not a common problem, but still something that could go wrong. this wire will feed the starter relay under the hood...
