Just a note on the stability control message, my current XJ8 and previous XJ6 occasionally turned on the traction light to go off only after a short drive and a restart. The xj8 seems to have issues after the stability control has been pushed a bit (burn out, power slide, anytime the ASC light flashes on) the next time the light seems to come on. As for the starting problem, i agree more information would be needed

Hi there
if you are able to take the starter out take it to autozone and test it for free but it sounds like to mne like the bendix in the starter is gone

Hello, It sounds as if you have a low voltage problem. Even though it turns over fine there may be problem with the positive cable at the battery. Remove the cables and clean them with baking soda and a toothbrush this should get you on your way. Please rate this answer, Thank you.

Need more information is needed. because stability control refers to the suspension control system on the vehicle and would have no relation to starting the vehicle. I know this is dumb but is there enough fuel in the car and can you hear the fuel pump turn on when you turn the key on!, If not maybe there is a computer failure that has affected the stability control system too.

Security is set. Could be one problem. Fuel system can do this, but rarely. Takes a scanner to see where to look first.

2000 Jaguar xj8 turn over won't start stability control fail light on.

the stab light comes on if the battery is low because you are cranking the engine your aj26 v8 engine may have a common problem for cars up to that model/year with worn nicosil coated bores ie. low compression check the vin no. at your jag dealer you can get it started by removing the spark plugs and putting a egg cup of engine oil in to each of the cylinders the first thing to do is to check for fault codes using a obd code reader for a clue followed by a compression test

"Stability Control Fail" light on.

first job is to check the part load and main beather hoses are ok the stability system light may be a false indicator if the engine has stalled best is to get fault codes out of the ecm with a code reader to help but air leaks on the engine inlet side can cause strange/seeming unrelated symptoms

1999 jaguar xj8 with abs light on and stability control fail message, what is the problem with this? thanks.

abs modules work very hard. by the age of your car it seems that the abs module is packing up. the abs system has sensors on all four wheels that figures out braking, stability and control of the car when cornering. these do brake down over time and is part of the wear and tear side of things. you don't need to buy a new one. they do overhaul these things for much cheaper. your car magazines should advertize the fixing of these things or contact a scrapyard for a secondahand one. check if the abs sensors are not faulty and replace them. do not go to the agents, they will rip you off. good luck

Failsafe engine mode light on. reasons why. xj308 v8 1998

My 1999 Jag XJ8 did the same thing when the cruise control was activated (red button by the gear shift), but I wasn't actually using the cruise control. I deactivated the cruise control and the fail safe message no longer appears.

Stability control fail Jaguar XJ8

this may sound crazy but what sort of fuel are you running? Try filling the car with premium 98 octane and run it - if you are running inferior grade or dirty fuel the throttle body sensors will register a differential in the burn/energy and throw a fault. The bad news is that a faulty throttle body will cause the same problem and cost a fortune to replace.
