For future reference: Matters have three states liquid, solid and....( you know the other one ). Temperature plays an important role over matter. so a colder lubricant will, by logic be thicker then it's counterpart...add to this lubricant degradation from heat, friction, condensation .., contaminants from, again friction, condensation and environment, you end up with "sludge" it's not a lubricant anymore it's a radical vector. How clean is your trany after 10 years in this muck ? Mollasse is the answer ?? Huummm...I bet Half a pint of Varsol would do it over miracle mollasse even in the long run. This is pure physic. An oil/filter change (a lot of filter are expensive but easely cleanable)on a trany is perhaps a little more messy but maintenance is the Immunity !

Try checking the fluid level when cold and then when hot. sounds like this might be the problem. and it won't hurt to put the lucas brand trans slip stop in it. its like molasses when your pour it in and does wonders. saved many of trans before it was too late!!!!!
pay alittle now for something that may be saved!!!!!

Will a transmission out of a dodge 3/4 ton with a v10 fit in a 1995 of the same?

yes they both use a 48re trans. so does the diesel. a 5.9gas and 5.2 uses a 47re. all dodge v10s and 5.9 diesels in all years 2 wheel and 4 x4 use a 48re. some models don't have the overdrive portion on the back of trans but you can put it on one that doesn't and you can add or remove a transfer case to any of them. you can even use a 47 re it just has weaker bands and cluches

I have a 1992 ford ranger it has a 2.3L four cylinder engine.it has a ticking noise so i think its a lifter.its real bad when i first start it and slows alittle bit when the engine worms up,the ticking...

Before you change lifters try this trick. Drain 2 quarts of oil from the engine and top it off with auto trans fluid. Let the truck idle for 45 minutes or until quite , then change the oil and filter. I have made many lifters get quiet this way and it will not damage engine.

2002 caravan replaced radiator , now we have no heat how do you bleed the air out of the system.

Pull the radiator/ resevoir cap off. start the car and let warm up. after it is warm rev the engine and add coolant as needed. only add alittle at a time. revving the engine pushes the air thru. you will loose some coolant as the air is purged. do this until you get heat from the dash. then keep check on the coolant level for a few days.

2000 Durango w/5.2 ltr., automatic trans, and 198,000 miles. Transmission slips when first started until I drive for 2 miles or so. After that no problem.

this is a common problem with the dodge it is caused by the lip-seals inside the trans. getting hard from all the heating up and cooling down. the reason it goes away after it worms up is that the seals soften up with the heat it will get worse over time but there are some things you can do to help with the problem. first service the trany. ( change the filter and fluid ) and try adding some TRANS-X trany. treatment we have had great luck with this product in the past.

How much fluid is needed in my durango for my tranfer case 5.2 litre engine

You should have a drain plug and a fill plug
You fill it,until it runs out the fill plug

Find out the correct fluid to use, if it is Trans Fluid, try and find synthetic

It will be about 1 1/2 quarts,so get two.

Change the trans fluid every three years, not more than 30,000 miles or it will bite you,I used to own a trans shop
Don't forget to flush the power steering, and do the brake fluid every two years

I have a 99 dodge 3/4 ton with an automatic... truck has 85000 miles and never been beat on but the transmission is acting up.. won't shift out of first until against the rev limiter,,then is shifting back...

Anything is possible but I would at least Have the trans serviced with a filter change before I chanced it. And don't let them put it on that machine that back flushes the transmission and replaces the fluid with synthetic oil. Every vehicle I have ever heard of allowing that to be done to it has ended up in the shop within 6 months for a total rebuild.

Is it still fine? Some people, even mechanics, think you can use transmission fluid other that ATF+3 or ATF+4. YOU ABSOLUTELY CANNOT use even a drop in your transmission. If there is ANY, completely drain and fill with proper fluid.

Trns shift problem

On chrysler product vehicles that use the electrical solonoids inside the trans oil pan can usually just be removed and cleaned and they will usually function correctly again. They have a tendency to get laquered up and stick if the trans fluid has not been serviced regurarly. This happenes from the neon all the way up to the dodge 3/4 ton pickups with the gasoline engines.

2002 neon trans pressure swithc code P08884

you might just need a new sensor im not sure of the exact location of it though but i do know on most dodge vehicles and definatly neons that whenever a trans code is comming up the car will go into a "saftey mode'' where the car wont get full power, this is to basically baby the engine and trans untill you get it to a mechanic. I would recomend when taking it to the dealer to have it looked at put the car in third gear instead of drive and take it easy on the gas
