Question about 1998 Jeep Cherokee
Read similar entries here. Don't know if I'm still engaging the brake when I shut it off, so I'll try that. Sometimes I can turn the key, put into neutral and it will start. Sometimes it starts perfectly. If it's cold and wet outside, it might not start. Mechanic sez it's neutral safety switch. If so, can I replace myself (and save $650)?
Switch can be changed, instructions in most manuals (even cheap ones) New one is about$ 230, used abt $30, or you can take apart old one and clean contacts but be careful on disassembly or stuff inside will fall out. Should take about an hour or so. Hardest part is removal because they get stuck on shaft.
