My trunk for a 2000 Jetta will not open. The noise it makes while opening comes on, but it does not open. I have tried using the key, but it will not open. Please help, as I have to change a brake light, and I need to open the trunk.

Hello all. I had this problem for a long time, and I used to use the back seats to access my trunk. I finally searched the internet and came across this website, www.jettatrunk.com. They have a video on the website and on YouTube (just google Youtube Jetta Trunk http://www.youtube.com/user/target4fun#p... and http://www.youtube.com/user/target4fun#p... )showing you how to install it. They sell two pieces of plastic that solves all your Jetta trunk problems, and saves you hundreds of dollars from the dealership. The dealership replaces the metal pieces and the plastic tip that opens the switch, but this tip breaks sooner or later, causing you more aggravation in the future. Please buy this equipment, and crawl to the back of your Jetta, take the cover out, open the trunk and install the piece. It costs $39, but it is worth the money. Trust me, I had no access to my trunk for a year! All the best

There is a plastic part in the linkage from the electric solinoid to the trunk release. The key activates the same solinoid but if you turn the key with more force it will activate the trunk release using a mechanical hook-up. If you remove the carpet covering from the inside of the trunk lid behind the key hole you will see the broken part.

if you insert the key in the lock and turn it alittle further the boot should open.the noise you hear is the actuator moving, but the plastic rod to open the boot is probably brocken.

On the Jetta 2000 TDI, does the back seat flip down, enabling access from the trunk? Like a hatch back, I mean/.

Yup - each seat has a latch and you can gain access to the trunk... the seats can fold flat if you take off the headrests

This has been good for me since sometimes my trunk key or automatic opener doesn't work and I need to access the trunk from the car

A mechanic told me there really isn't a "tune up" per say for a Jetta TDI. Most importantly, the timing belt (w/water pump) replacement is the biggest concern. Change all the belts, check the glow plugs. If you drive on the highway a lot, the mass air flow sensor and its related hoses should be ok (carbon build up).

If your lock actuator engages (you can hear the sound it makes) with the remote/electric button on the door, but the trunk doesn't open then the problem is likely a broken plastic arm that the electric assembly pushes. You can see it if you unscrew the inside cover from the trunk lid and try the remote. I started having the same issue with VW Jetta 2002 GLS that was rear-ended 8 months ago. My guess is the cracked plastic finally gave out in the cold weather.

I can't open the trunk

What happens when you use the key? Difficult to turn key, or difficult to insert? Spray wd40 (available just about anywhere) into the lock, try the key again, spray again. If you have a trunk release pull the release as far as you can, holding it while a helper uses a pair of vise grips to lock on the cable, and attempt to pull it further, which may be just enough to release the 'catch" and allow the trunk to open. Good Luck! countrycurt0
